Odin's Story

Meet Odin, an incredibly resilient, strong, little guy who has defied all odds and is finally able to live life free from pain and fear.

Odin is four years old and the size of a 7 month old kitten, weighing in at only 7lbs on a good day. For the first three years of his life he lived with his “owners” who severely neglected him. Odin was half blind, this tiny warrior had a horrific tumor in his left eye, rendering it completely useless. It was extremely swollen and painful and those humans never bothered to help him for three whole years! Luckily this little guy found his way into a foster where NAFA was able to get him in for an enucleation and on the fast track to healing and healthy.

However, Odin was not quite finished with his medical surprises. While in foster care he healed beautifully from his eye surgery, then he began showing symptoms of something else. Sadly, his eye was not the end of the things he would lose (including the trouble puffs, of course).

Odin developed severe ulcers in his mouth that resulted in a diagnosis of stomatitis. After multiple rounds of antibiotics and steroids, the pain would not decrease. Even while receiving pain management, he would wake up from a nap howling in pain, he could not even eat a meat slurry without screaming. The hard, but necessary, decision came to have surgery to remove his teeth.

This little fighter still had some luck on his side. Despite the cards dealt to him, he is not completely toothless. His vet team were able to salvage his canines, and in total he had 20 teeth removed, not including the ones he previously lost on his own.

He has barely any teeth and one eye but this boy is thriving, able to eat kibble like a champ again; and giving all the love he possibly can to his fosters to show his gratitude. Due to his loss of sight, he is not very fond of living with other, active, cats. Their quick movements startle him easily when he cannot see them coming. He much prefers to play by himself, or his humans, so a home where he is the only feline is necessary. He is just fine with calm, large breed dogs.

Odin is finally pain free, happy and healthy and he is looking for his own forever family!

Niagara Action For Animals's Adoption Policy
NAfA operates a limited adoption program. Companion animals available for adoption can be viewed on Petfinder. Our adoption fee is $200 for kittens and $150 for adult cats (6+ months). All adoption fees include vet check, spay/neuter, microchip and first vaccine (or more, depending on age). Adoption fees for dogs and other animals vary. Many of the kittens in our adoption program are the offspring of feral cats/barn cats living in monitored colonies who have since been spayed/neutered. NAfA, space providing, may also re-home kittens from low-income homes where the adult cats have been spayed/neutered through our SNIP program. Adult cats in the program are homeless cats that NAfA has been able to assist or cats adopted through our Adoption Program and for reasons beyond their family's control have been brought back. All of our cats/kittens are fostered in homes and are very well socialized before being placed in our adoption centres. Adoption Applications can be submitted through our website: https://niagaraactionforanimals.org/adoptions/apply-to-adopt/ *NOTE: only applications received through the link above will be accepted
