Oak's Story
Oak<br/>I would like to address my statements to someone searching for a cat who hasn’t had much luck in her life. I am almost 8 years old, spayed, and housebroken. I have been adopted and returned without finding the perfect match. The interviewer lady (IL) has known me since 2024 and always has lovely things to say about me. Historically, I have been a cuddly, affectionate lap cat, continually seeking loving attention. I am a very chatty catty when it’s time for meals! And although I am no longer a kitten, I still have lots of playful energy and need interactive stimulation with my human. For example, playing with "fishing poles" with a toy at the end of the string lets me catch and bite. Chasing laser pointers gives me the thrill of the hunt and helps me burn off extra energy. This combination of personality traits can be confusing for some people. I am currently living in a Roaming Room with two other girl cats, and we are slowly getting used to each other. Not every cat gets along with every other cat or every human. There is a chemistry that makes some partnerships strong. I lived with a staff member who tried to overstimulate me to see how I would react. She petted my whole body, picked me up, brushed me, cuddled me on her lap, and even carried me around the house. I never tried to nip, scratch, growl, or hiss at her. But she was good at reading me. I must be in a home where everyone is 16 or older because I do not have many signals to let people know I need to be left alone. My one clear sign is that my tail will stick straight up and begin to twitch. This means you need to stop touching me and let me walk away. Once I feel comfortable again, I will come back when I’m ready for more affection. I know this is subtle, but it is a sure-fire way to let you know I’m done. When I avoid being touched, that is the time to pull out the interactive toys! Being able to catch something with my claws or teeth fulfills a biological need shared by all cats. I sure hope this interview is the last one I have with the IL because I’m ready for my forever home. 3-31-26
