Murray's Story

Murray is approx 3-5 years old. I adopted him as a barn cat in 2023 from the county shelter. He was not happy in the shelter and they thought an outside home would be best. He is a big (16 lb) beautiful fixed male - orange tuxedo.

He is SUPER friendly and would rather be in your lap or by your side than playing with toys or out hunting. In fact, Murray is not a hunter. He prefers to sit in his bed and watch the birds from the window.

He can get feisty and give you a swipe or bite if playing too rough. Would not be good with children. He is ok with a cat friendly and savvy dog. He was ok with my older barn cat. Would sometimes try to boss her around but if she hissed he would back off. He has never sprayed since I got him. He uses a litter box and is very neat. He prefers dry food to canned. A very easy keeper. Really just likes company. Not really an outdoor type cat. He would probably adapt fine to being kept indoors and not allowed out - as long as he has company.

When I'm out working around the barn and yard he follows me around - more like a dog. He liked to hang out with my pony. And he LOVES water. When he hears running water, he comes running.

Sadly my older cat and both of my horses have died. Murray is all alone in the barn and VERY lonely. He tries continually to come to the house but we can not have a house cat. Whenever he sees me, he comes to visit. I lock him in at night.

While Murrary is loving to his person or people, he is reserved with strangers and will disappear when they show up. So it might take him a while to settle into a home with more than 1-2 people. And anyone coming to meet him will have to understand he will be shy at first.

Any help finding Murrary a loving safe home would be appreciated.

Motherlode Feral Cat Alliance's Adoption Policy
Adopters of “Barn Cats” are personally screened by one of our members. We make sure the adopters live in an appropriate location, have a safe sheltered area and agree to provide food and fresh water daily to cats we move to and acclimate to their property. Acclimation is done in a large cage, inside of a safe outbuilding or covered area. Most of our clients live on farms, ranches or live on acreage as we are a mostly rural area. Kittens or tame cats are placed into homes of people who fill out our adoption form and agree to return the cat to us if it does not work out for any reason.
