Mowgli's Story

My friends at Wayside say:
-I am pretty shy. It will take time and patience to see me warm up to you!
-I like treats!
-I like to play on my own, so maybe once we bond, we can be playmates!
-I have been known to accept some affection every now ang again
-I may find some comfort in the presence of other cats
-I am a graduate of Wayside's TABBY program!

Home preferences:
-A calm, quiet, low traffic home
-A patient and cat savvy adopter

Special Note: This cat is from a hoarding situation. They will likely need time to adjust to home life. They have lived with many other cats but may have not experienced socialization with people and things like petting and large open spaces are overwhelming for them. Adopters should be willing to be patient during this process. Sequestering a cat in one small room for 2-4 weeks can be very helpful and gives the cat a safe place to call their own. It is important to let them go at their own pace with building a relationship with their new family and limiting lots of commotion and visitors in the beginning is wise. They may have not experienced life outside of the hoarding situation, so things could be overwhelming for them at first. Patience and positive interactions are crucial. Aversive methods of training should be avoided. Using treats, play and enrichment to build trust and teach new things is the way to go! All cats are of course unique and the time in which they each warm up to people and places is just as unique as they are.

Hi, I’m Mowgli

I'm a handsome 2-year-old tabby boy with a soft, medium-length coat. I was rescued from a hoarding situation, which means the big wide world can feel a little scary and overwhelming to me right now. Because of my past, I am pretty shy at first, and I gently ask for your patience and understanding while I take my time to adjust to a new environment.

Since I'm used to being around lots of other felines, I actually find a lot of comfort in the presence of other cats! I would likely do very well with a confident cat friend in my future home to show me the ropes. I am also a proud graduate of the TABBY program (To Achieve Best Behavior Yet)! Thanks to my friends here, I am making more and more progress every single day.

To help me continue to blossom, I will need a calm, quiet home with a patient, cat-savvy adopter who knows how to read my body language. I already love eating tasty treats and I really enjoy playing with toys on my own. While I mostly keep to myself right now, I have been known to accept sweet affection every now and again! As we bond and my confidence grows, I just know I would love to start playing with my people, too.

If you have a peaceful home and a patient heart for a sweet guy who is working hard to brave the world, I would love to meet you. Let’s meet soon and take things slow... okay?

Love, Mowgli
