Mortimer Toast

One of our newest intakes of 2026, this sweet senior gentleman came to us with two names …Mortimer and Toast, we just couldn’t decide. And somehow… they both fit him perfectly.<br/>This very special boy is a true survivor. He was found living outside in a housing complex, fending for himself for quite some time. Despite everything he’s been through, he is safe now, warm, and finally getting the care he deserves.<br/>Diagnosis & Medical Needs:<br/>Mortimer/Toast is blind and has high blood pressure (hypertension), which requires daily medication and close monitoring. He was declawed on his front paws and does have some general arthritis.<br/>It’s likely that his blindness was caused by long-term, untreated hypertension. He is doing well on a transdermal blood pressure medication and it will need to be monitored by vets in the future. <br/>Personality:<br/>He loves getting cozy, lounging around, and being pet. He's not at all demanding about it, but pets bring him so much joy and happiness, especially belly rubs! He's the most laid back, casual, chill guy you'll ever meet (seriously, he lounges around calmly while having blood drawn at the vet's office!). He is also fine with sitting on laps and being held or carried.<br/>He's great at learning and adapting to new environments, and will likely have no problems being thoughtfully introduced to a new home. It might be helpful to know that it's a myth that if you have a blind pet you can never move your furniture again. He has a fantastic sense of smell and his whiskers help him to navigate as well. He's great at using the litter box (100% success rate). He loves to sniff out and "hunt" for his soft cat food when it's put down for him. He also loves sitting in front of air vents to sniff the air and feel the breeze! He loves having a soft cat bed as a safe spot to come back to. We've found it helpful to keep his dry food and water on a tray to help him keep track of where it is. He's not much of a climber, but does sometimes sit on chairs. He has also mostly learned to pause before he walks into things if you say "careful!"
