Monsieur Lafayette's Story

Monsieur Lafayette is one of the most beautiful, cuddly, and happy cats weve ever met. He wants to lounge on your lap, headbutt your legs as he walks by, and snuggle in close. He absolutely loves all humans, and is quite playful at just 1 year old. We suspect Monsieur is a Maine Coon mix, which explains his striking pattern and coat! On the day-to-day, Monsieur is not a big meow-er - he prefers purring and grooming his long coat.

Monsieur is also a special needs cat, because he has a medical condition known as Feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). HCM is a structural heart disease which decreases the hearts efficiency. The overall quality of life for cats with HCM tends to be very high with regular vet visits Monsieur isnt in any pain or fatigue and is a happy cat. Later in life, HCM can cause heart disease and complications.

We know the right adopter for Monsieur is out there. Once a year, Monsieur should get an echocardiogram to monitor his heart health. These scans are $1,000 and so Monsieur's adopter should be financially suited to take on that regular cost.

He was found tangled and dirty outside this spring, when he showed up outside of his rescuers window asking to be let inside, where he belongs. Since then, he has gotten an extensive medical workup to give his future adopter a comprehensive picture of his health and a dedicated team of vets including a board-certified animal cardiologist to support him.

Monsieur is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, negative for FIV and FeLV, and litter-box trained. He is clear of parasites and fleas.

He can be adopted to a home with or without another cat. He is young, so he would likely enjoy a playmate, but seems very happy to simply love on his human companions.

Please reach out if you are curious about what it means to adopt a cat with HCM we will supply resources, advice, and answer questions happily. This is a very special cat who deserves peace, love, and a steady home and were looking for a very special person to pair with him.

Backyard Cats of Bed-Stuy's Adoption Policy
I ask that everyone interested in adopting a cat from me starts the application process by filling out my adoption application! The more details you can provide, the better. You can find the app here: https://www.backyardcatsofbedstuy.com/adoption-application Once I've received your application, if I'm interested in moving forward I'll reach out to schedule a Zoom call (or sometimes an in-person meeting, where possible). I often have the foster join as well to talk more specifically about each cat's personality and needs. If the meet-and-greet goes well, and if requested, the potential adopter can arrange a time to meet the cat(s) at their foster homes, or they can start out with a trial "foster-to-adopt" period of one month, to make sure it is a good fit for both cats and humans. A cat isn't considered "fully adopted" until they have been through proper vetting (spayed or neutered, given rabies and FVRCP vaccines, tested for FeLV and FIV, microchipped, and dewormed and treated for fleas). I love to stay in touch with my adopters and often receive updates about their new pets thriving in their forever homes!
