Monkey's Story

Monkey’s story began in the shadows of a Harlem parking garage, where she and her four siblings were born to a frightened young mother who was barely more than a kitten herself. Life was unforgiving from the start. During one freezing winter night, two of Monkey’s siblings crawled into the engine of a truck seeking warmth. By morning, the truck drove away with them still inside. The loss devastated the tiny family, and tragedy struck again when Monkey vanished while rescuers were trapping the remaining kittens and their mom.

For months, there was no sign of her. Through the bitter winter, we feared the worst and believed Monkey had not survived. Then, in the spring, a miracle appeared: a lone kitten, the same age, with the unmistakable face of her mother and siblings. It was Monkey. Against every odd, she had survived alone.

Now 11 months old, Monkey has traded survival for love and comfort. She adores curling up on your chest, melting into your lap for cuddles, and chasing her beloved toy mouse with endless kitten energy. She is deeply affectionate and forms strong bonds with her people, rewarding kindness with purrs and companionship.

Monkey has overcome more hardship in her first year than most cats ever will. Because she prefers being the center of attention, she would thrive best as the only cat in a calm, loving home. Monkey is neutered, vaccinated (including rabies), microchipped, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and has been treated for fleas and worms. All medical paperwork will be provided upon adoption. After everything she has endured, Monkey deserves a safe place — and someone who will never let her feel alone again.

The Cat Collective Rescue NY's Adoption Policy
All adopters complete an application, a short interview, a home check (virtual or in-person), and references so we can ensure the best possible match for both the cat and the family. We carefully consider household dynamics — including other pets, children, lifestyle, and experience — to help make placements that are safe, successful, and lasting. Adoption is a lifelong commitment (often 15–20 years), and if a match doesn’t work out, the cat must be returned to our rescue — never rehomed independently or surrendered elsewhere. Declawing is not permitted. The adoption fee helps cover spay/neuter, vaccinations, testing, microchipping, and medical care; it is a contribution toward the cat’s care, not a purchase. We believe normal cat behaviors like scratching, climbing, and adjustment periods are part of the journey, and we’re here to support you — including check-ins after adoption to help ensure a smooth transition.
