Missy's Story

🐾 The Girl Who Learned to Trust Again 🐾
Some cats race to the front of their kennel to greet visitors. You'll find me tucked safely inside my box.
My name may not be the first one you notice as you walk through the shelter, and that's okay. Life has taught me to be careful with my heart.

Before coming to Franklin County Animal Rescue, the person I trusted most moved away and left me behind. Through no fault of my own, I suddenly found myself without the home and security I thought would always be there. When I arrived at the shelter, I weighed only 3.5 pounds, at 3 years old, far below a healthy weight. I was so fragile that the staff spent my first 45 days focused on helping me gain strength and feel safe before I could even have my spay surgery.
Since then, I've been healing, both physically and emotionally.
The shelter can be a scary place for a shy soul like me. There are unfamiliar sounds, new people, and a lot of change. Most days, I choose the comfort of my box, where I feel protected. But the staff see something special in me. They see a gentle cat who has endured more than she should have and is still trying, one small step at a time.
I may never be the cat who instantly jumps into a stranger's lap. What I need is someone who understands that trust is earned, not given. Someone who sees value in the quiet victories: a slow blink, a curious peek from my hiding spot, the first time I choose to come sit nearby.
For the right person, those moments will mean everything.
I'm not looking for perfection. I'm looking for patience. A calm home. A kind heart. Someone willing to let me move at my own pace and show me that people can be trusted again.
If you believe the most rewarding relationships are the ones worth waiting for, I just might be your girl. ❤️"We're so excited you're interested in adopting a new furry friend! To help us find the perfect match for you and our animals, we're pre-approving applicants.

Here's how it works:

Please start by filling out our adoption application: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=rz1556&method=online_form_html&formid=6
This helps us learn more about you, including which animal you're interested in, your family, any other pets you have, your living situation (owning or renting), and your veterinarian.
We understand that if you don't currently have pets, you won't have a vet reference. In that case, we kindly ask for a personal reference instead.
Why we ask these questions:
We want to make sure we find the best possible fit for both you and the animal.
For renters, we need to confirm with your landlord that pets are allowed, as unfortunately, many landlords in Franklin County have restrictions.
Checking with your veterinarian helps us ensure that our animals receive the ongoing medical care they deserve.
What happens next:
Once we receive positive references from your landlord (if applicable) and veterinarian (or personal reference), we'll contact you to schedule an appointment if you're interested in adopting a dog.
If you're looking for a feline friend, you're welcome to come in anytime during our open hours!
Important information:
Adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the date your application is approved.
We're truly grateful for the overwhelming interest in our animals! Our staff is working diligently to approve applications as quickly as possible. While it may take a few days, most applications are approved sooner.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to find loving homes for our wonderful animals!"
