Minka's Story
MINKA HAS TESTED + FOR FIV. This virus is spread to other cats through bites. Casual, non-aggressive contact and sharing of bowls and grooming each other does not seem to spread the virus. FIV+ cats/kittens can live in homes with other cats/kittens as long as the cats has a positive social structure and do not fight.
Minka is likely testing positive for FIV due to antibodies from her mother, who we assume is FIV+. The virus does not normally spread to the kittens. We recommend Minka's adopter taking her to their veterinarian in 6 months to retest for FIV. She will most likely test negative, at this time.
If you would like to meet Minka, she will be in the cat room today, Saturday, May 30th from 1pm to 5pm.
