Max's Story

Some cats walk into a room and change the whole feeling of it. Max is one of those cats. He is around eight years old, and from the moment you sit down, he finds his way onto your lap like he has been waiting for exactly that moment. He is warm, unhurried, and deeply affectionate in a way that feels less like a cat being friendly and more like a friend being present.

Max did not have an easy start. He came to us years ago as part of a hoarding situation where cats were kept five to seven to a cage, with very little space, comfort, or individual care. Despite all of that, he came out the other side without a single edge on him. No fear, no bitterness, no walls up. What he has instead is an extraordinary capacity to love and be loved, which tells you everything you need to know about who Max is.

More recently, Max lost the person who meant the world to him. His owner passed away, and just like that, this gentle boy found himself without a home again. He deserves so much better than that, and we know the right family is out there for him.

The best way to describe Max is that he is a lap cat in the truest sense. He does not just tolerate closeness; he seeks it out. Settle in for a movie or a quiet evening with a book and he will be right there, curled up and purring, completely content to just be near you. He is cuddly and soft and the kind of cat who makes a cold night feel a little cozier.

He also has a playful streak that comes out when the mood strikes him, and one of his favorite things in the world is to climb up onto your back and perch there like you are the best seat in the house. It is a little unexpected and completely endearing, and most people who meet him cannot help but laugh when he does it.

Max gets along beautifully with other cats, so if you already have a feline companion at home, there is a good chance the two of them will find their footing together. That said, he is also perfectly happy as an only cat. He does not need a friend to thrive. He just needs you.

Older children who understand how to be gentle and respectful with animals would be a wonderful fit for Max. He is not a rough-and-tumble kind of cat, but in a calm and loving home, he will give back everything you give him and then some.
Max has been through a lot for a cat who has nothing but love to offer. He has lost a home, he has lost a person, and he has kept his gentle heart intact through all of it. He does not ask for much. A warm lap and someone who will scratch behind his ears and let him climb onto their back when he is feeling affectionate. If that sounds like something you can give him, we would love to talk.

The Lucky Cat Rescue's Adoption Policy
We have a multi-step adoption process. While we try to process our adoptions as quickly as possible, our cats are very important to us, so we do our best to ensure they go to homes that will be the best possible fit for them. * Adoption application: we have a 1 page application, requesting landlord pet policy verification (if renting), personal references, and a veterinarian reference (if you currently have other pets) * Meet and greet: we ask that all members of the household meet the cat in person before adoption. This makes sure the cat is a good fit for everyone. * Home delivery: we will deliver the cat to you, and will help you get the cat settled in its new home! This also serves as a low-key "home check," so please be prepared to allow us inside the home. That will also make it more comfortable for all of us as we finish up the paperwork and walk you through your new cat's vet records! * Return policy: we will take any of our cats back at any time and for any reason. As part of our adoption contract, if you are ever no longer able to keep the cat, we expect the cat to be returned to us (please do not try to re-home them yourself). Due to our home deliveries and return policies, with rare exceptions we do not adopt to homes outside of New Jersey. Thank you for understanding.
