Max's Story

Max and his friend Maggie were surrendered to Valley Humane on 12/9; their owner was moving out of the country and could not take her cats with her. They had been lovingly cared for together for the past couple of years as indoor-only cats. Max is a friendly cat and a very good pet; he even let his previous owner bathe him! He is very cuddly and would love to be your lap cat.

This cat has a condition in both eyes called "symblepharon," it is more severe in the left eye compared to the right. It is likely that this cat previously had an infection in the eyes resulting in inflammation of the corneas (the clear part of the eye.). In an attempt to heal this infection and likely corneal ulcers, some of the surrounding tissues of the eye called conjunctiva attached to the cornea and became permanently healed there. While the function of the eye is normal, this tissue now permanently covers portions of the cornea. This limits vision the same way a curtain covering a window prevents you from seeing outside properly. This cat also has a condition called anterior synechia of the iris in the right eye. A portion of the iris (the colored portion of the eye) has become permanently stuck to the back of the cornea. The condition that affected the iris also caused some scarring of the cornea, creating a white patch on the surface of the eye. Fortunately, this cat's partial loss of vision is not anticipated to negatively impact his quality of life and his eyes are currently comfortable. The adopting family may wish to purse consultation with a veterinary ophthalmologist at their expense to see if there is a surgical option to improve vision although success rates may be limited.

Do you have questions about this animal or are you ready to take the next step to adoption? Pleasanton Valley Humane Society's Adoption Policy
How It Works Potential adopters can read an animal’s profile to determine if the pet would be a good fit for their home and lifestyle. Copy and paste the application URL from the animal’s profile or click to apply. Once the application is received, an adoption counselor will call to discuss the match. Be ready to answer the call from Valley Humane as soon as your application is submitted. Animals shown on our website are ready to go home. We typically schedule an adoption appointment within 24-48 hours of approving an application where you can meet the pet and complete paperwork. Once you’ve decided a pet is the right fit for your family, the adoption counselor will walk you through our adoption agreement. All pertinent medical information will be provided to you, as well as a take-home packet including information on feeding your new pet. We will also verify that the animals’ microchip is accurate and prepare them for travel. Finally, we will collect the adoption fee. Please allow approximately one hour to complete the adoption process. After taking a quick picture to share on social media (optional, of course!), you’re ready to head home and start enjoying life with your new friend
