We found her kittens, and she raised every one of them safely in a foster home. But Maressa herself wasn't ready for people yet. She was born outside, and the world indoors was not a world she trusted. So after being spayed, she was released back into the neighborhood where she was found — right near the yard of the woman who had rescued her.<br/><br/>And then something quiet and beautiful happened. She came back.<br/><br/>Every day for three years, Maressa showed up at her rescuer's yard for dinner. Always at a distance. Always ready to bolt. But she kept coming back, which told us everything we needed to know about her — she wanted connection, she just needed to find it on her own terms.<br/><br/>This past winter, something shifted.
