It's impossible to be annoyed. Once he's satisfied, he'll find a nearby perch or bed and tuck himself in, often curled up alongside one of our other cats. He spends his days close — always within range, always aware of where you are, just doing it quietly from a comfortable spot of his choosing.<br/><br/>Come evening, Maple is back in full form. He'll jump up on the couch and make himself impossible to ignore — walking across laps, pressing in close, being his most charming self. He isn't ready to curl up and fully relax on a lap just yet, but he wants to be right there with you. Whether that ever becomes a full lap situation depends entirely on time, patience, and the person on the other end. With Maple, you just never know — and that's part of what makes every little step feel like a gift.<br/><br/>*** A Few Things to Know ***<br/><br/>Maple will tolerate being picked up by people he trusts, but even then his patience lasts about 30 seconds before he's ready to be back on solid ground. That's just who he is, and it's worth respecting.<br/><br/>Nail trims are a work in progress. His claws are sharp and do need regular attention, and we are slowly and carefully building his trust around the process. He is vocal about his feelings — he will make some genuinely impressive and intimidating noises and will escape any way he possibly can — but he has never bitten or scratched during a trim. All drama, zero harm. We're getting there, and the right home will continue that patient work.<br/><br/>Maple is not a cat who will walk into a new home and immediately settle in. He takes time. He is cautious and thoughtful about who he lets in, and that process can't be rushed. But adopters who give him the space and patience he needs are rewarded with a cat who is, underneath all that careful assessment, an absolute sweetheart. He will come to you. He will ask for pets. He will follow you from room to room and plant himself nearby, just to be close. That loyalty, once earned, is something special.<br/><br/>Because of his need for calm and gentle handling, Maple is not a good match for young children who are still learning how to interact with animals. He cannot be chased, grabbed at, or overwhelmed — he needs to be the one who initiates contact and sets the pace. A quieter household, or one with older children who understand and respect animal boundaries, will set him up for success.<br/><br/>Maple would do best in: A calm, patient home where someone is willing to take the time to earn his trust. He is comfortable with other cats and would likely thrive with a feline companion to snuggle with.
