Mango - Kitty who has been in foster the longest's Story

This is the equally sweet and handsome, Mango This beautiful boy and his "brother", were brought to the shelter through no fault of their own, but only after their previous owner moved and could not take them with them. Mango has an estimated birthdate of 11/13/20, so he's about 5 1/2 years old. Mango is a super sweet, outgoing and confident guy. He loves everyone he meets, and is not one for personal space. If there is a lap to lay in, he will find it immediately! Anywhere you are, that's where he wants to be too. He wants to be a part of the action and follows his foster parents all around the house, probably hoping that they sit down and he can navigate directly to their laps! That's right, this sweet boy found his way to a loving foster home, so that he could get out of that stressful shelter! He is loving life in the home and quickly acclimated to the home and his foster brothers and sisters. Mango is a perfect gentlemen in his foster home and has exhibited no destructive behavior, or had any out of box incidents! As mentioned, he is a confident kitty, but he doesn't start fights. He doesn't have a shy bone in his body, and is just an all around wonderful guy! The other kitties in the home don't seem to mind his presence either, and he's friends with every one of his foster siblings. So if you have other kitties in your home, he will likely fit right in! He is a fun filled guy who loves to climb cat trees, play with feather wands, certain pipe cleaner cat toys, and any toys containing catnip. He also loves window perches, and watching the birds at the feeder outside of the windows in his foster home. Since coming to the shelter this sweet boy became quite stressed, and it has caused some respiratory symptoms to surface. He gets sneezy, can sound a little congested and will sometimes sneeze "snot rockets" out of his nose. There just isn't a delicate way to put that! For this reason, he was lucky enough to move into their foster home. It is likely that Mango has kitty herpes, which sounds much worse that it is, and is actually quite easily managed. It is estimated that 80% of kitties have herpes, and 90% of kitties have been exposed to it. In kitties it presents as respiratory symptoms, but it's usually very easily treated by stress management, a quality diet, annual vet visits with the respiratory vaccine, possible visits for antiviral meds, and adding vitamins/herbal supplements and probiotics to his food. It may also be necessary to allow him to be in a bathroom with a humidifier from time to time, when a flare hits. When he came in to the shelter, he exhibited no respiratory symptoms at all, but they surfaced only since living in the stressful shelter environment. Don't let this scare you away from this wonderful, otherwise completely healthy boy though. No one is perfect, and that goes for kitties too! He has been doing great in his foster foster home, and his respiratory symptoms are getting better, but he's still known to shoot a snot rocket from time to time! Once he's settled into his loving forever home, those respiratory symptoms should subside, possibly for good, or with flare ups from time to time. It's hard to know for sure as the symptoms vary from kitty to kitty. As mentioned, Mango gets along great with other cats, but he has never been around dogs. Being the good guy that he is, he would likely be fine with gentle, cat-friendly dogs. Mango would probably end up being friends with a dog, if we had to guess! Mango does great with children, and would love to play and snuggle with them. Would you like to meet the dynamic Mango and make him a part of your family? If so, please fill out an application and schedule a meet and greet once you're approved! Remember that this cool cat resides in a foster home, and is not at the shelter, so a meet and greet must be scheduled.

A Petfinder inquiry is not a substitute for an application.
