Mama Anna's Story
Meet Mama Anna - Her Second Chance Starts Here

Some cats arrive at the shelter looking for a home.
Mama Anna arrived looking for someone to finally care.

Mama Anna is a beautiful 2-year-old blue-gray and white tabby who was found in Waterbury after her owner moved away and left behind more than 20 cats.

Yes. Twenty.

Neighbors began trapping the abandoned cats one by one, trying desperately to get them somewhere safe. Mama Anna was one of the unlucky ones who had been left to fend for herself. She was absolutely covered in fleas, loaded with worms, and then came the news that she tested FIV positive.

And that's where her story could have ended.

Except NFSAW said nope.

We took Mama Anna in.

The fleas are gone.
The worms are gone.
The neglect is behind her.

And the cat underneath it all?

She's a LOVEBUG.

Mama Anna is affectionate, gentle, and very happy to discover that humans can actually be pretty wonderful when they feed you, pet you, keep you warm, and don't abandon you.

She does have one important medical consideration: Mama Anna is FIV positive. FIV does not mean she is sick or that she can't have a long, happy life. She is not on daily medication for FIV, and the virus is primarily spread through serious bite wounds rather than ordinary friendly interaction. For that reason, we'd ideally like to find her a home with other FIV-positive cats or as the only cat in the household.

She could also benefit from a dental, something that isn't unusual for FIV-positive cats, and we'll make sure her new family understands her needs.

But here's what Mama Anna really needs:

A person who isn't afraid of giving a cat with a complicated beginning a beautiful ending.

She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and finally flea- and worm-free.

She's been through enough.

Now she deserves the easy stuff.

A sunny window.
A soft bed.
Someone who talks to her.
Someone who keeps their promises.

And maybe a person who will look at that sweet face every day and remind her:

"You weren't left behind. You were found."

Mama Anna didn't get the life she deserved the first time around.

We're going to make sure she gets it this time.
