Mama's Story

Meet Mama

2-Year-Old Buff Domestic Shorthair

Mama is ready for her next chapter, and she’s hoping it includes a forever family, a cozy couch, plenty of pets, and perhaps even a new name to go with her new life.

Mama has been with us since May, when she arrived with a litter of kittens who were only about a week old. She was an absolutely amazing mom. But Mama’s mothering days didn’t stop there. When orphaned kittens came into the shelter without a mama of their own, she welcomed them in, too. She loved them, nurtured them, and treated them just like they were hers.

Every single one of her kittens has now found a home.

Mama has finally been spayed, and now it’s her turn.

She especially enjoys the company of male cats and kittens and has happily taken on the role of surrogate mama. She isn't quite as fond of other female cats, so she would likely do best with boys or as the only female cat in the home.

Mama also has cerebellar hypoplasia, sometimes called wobbly cat syndrome. This is a neurological condition that occurred because her cerebellum didn't fully develop. The result? Mama is a little wobbly on her feet. That's really the biggest difference. She isn't in pain, and cats with cerebellar hypoplasia generally have a normal lifespan.

Mama gets around, uses her litterbox normally, and does all the important cat things. Because she's wobbly, she may occasionally make a little mess with the litter, but she certainly doesn't let that slow her down.

And when Mama isn't busy supervising everyone else, she loves to curl up on a lap and soak up attention. She enjoys being petted and absolutely adores companionship. She just isn't a fan of being picked up, so a quieter home without young children would probably be the best fit.

After spending so much time taking care of everyone else, Mama deserves someone who will take care of her.

She has been patient. She has been loving. She has been an incredible mama to kittens who needed her.

Now she needs someone to say, "You're home."

If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate companion with a little extra wiggle in her step, Mama might just be your girl.

Her kittens have had their happily-ever-after. Now it's Mama's turn.

This cat is available for adoption from Oceana County Animal Control. If interested, please call the shelter at 231-861-5395 and leave a message to be placed on this cat's adoption list. No obligation, but it reserves your place in line on the list.
