Magpie's Story

Magpie is currently located at our Everyday Adoption Center in Westminster (10460 Town Center Dr, Westminster, CO, 80021) and can be visited from 10am-6pm Sat/Sun and 12pm-7pm Mon-Fri! Email our Everyday Adoption Center team at EAC@savinganimalstoday.org for more information!

Introducing Magpie — a sweet, sensitive girl who is ready to leave her difficult past behind and finally learn what it means to feel safe, loved, and truly at home.

Magpie was rescued from a home overwhelmed with animals after her owner could no longer care for them all. When she arrived, she was suffering from severe dental disease, but thanks to the wonderful veterinary care she received, her painful teeth have been taken care of and she is on the road to healing. It was during this that we also found that she was FIV+, meaning she'll need a strictly indoor home and routine vet visits. Losing most of your teeth at a young age is hard enough, and recovering while getting yucky medicine twice a day hasn’t exactly helped convince Magpie that people are always fun.

But underneath her uncertainty is a loving little cat who truly wants connection. Before her dental surgery and medications, Magpie had already started coming out of her shell — approaching people, flopping over for pets, and learning that affection could feel really wonderful. Even now, when she’s trying to hide or act unsure, she can’t resist a gentle hand slowly rubbing the side of her head. The moment those soft pets begin, Magpie melts into them with sweet little leans that show just how badly she wants to trust.

Magpie has spent her life around other cats and dogs and enjoys having furry companions nearby. Snuggling up with an animal friend has often helped her feel safe and reassured when the world feels overwhelming. She can be a bit of a picky eater, but she seems especially fond of smooth wet foods like Sheba pâté — likely because it feels soothing on her healing mouth.

Despite everything she’s been through, Magpie’s playful spirit is beginning to peek through. Her eyes light up when she spots a toy, even if she’s still figuring out exactly what to do with it. She has excellent litter box manners and especially enjoys curling up in the cozy cubby of her cat tree for naps.

Magpie is looking for a patient, loving adopter who can help her rebuild confidence and remind her that people can be gentle, comforting, and safe. Please come meet Magpie and give her the chance to become someone’s cherished companion at last.
