MADDIE's Story

Maddie needs someone who's willing to take a chance on her. She's been here for nearly two months, but she's still struggling to adjust. Change is hard, especially when you lose the only home you've known for the entire 10 years of your life. Instead of being able to sprawl out wherever she's comfortable, this big girl is confined to a small kennel, and she doesn't understand why she's here. To top it all off, she's been put on a diet, and she is NOT happy about it. We truly believe that Maddie is one of those cats whose personality, mood, and behavior will completely change when she's out of here and back in a home environment. Her previous owner reported that Maddie is picky with people, but she loves love. We've seen it here, too. There are moments when Maddie vocalizes and rubs up on people's legs. She will lean into pets. These little glimpses into the real Maddie show us who she was before she came here and who she has the potential to be once she's home again. Maddie successfully lived with a dog and several cats before. We recommend slow introductions after she's fully acclimated to her new home. Maddie successfully lived with a small child before. Maddie is 10 years old and weighs 16.58 pounds. She's on a weight loss journey, and she hates it. She's spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go home TODAY! UPDATE: MAY 4, 2026 -- Maddie finally got to leave her kennel, and she's now relaxing in a foster home. Want to meet her? Contact our Adoptions team at 301-733-2060 option 3 or adoptions@hswcmd.org to set up a meet and greet with Maddie!
