Lucky's Story

Lucky had a hard start in life. She had a home & the people got a dog & she didn't like the dog. Because of this they put her outside in the garage. Lucky wanted to be inside but when she would come in she would not get along with the dog & get booted back out. She finally learned & just stayed in the garage & outside but was not happy.
She was advertised as free to a good home when she kept trying to get inside over the winter. She didn't want to live out in the cold!
She was adopted by a family with an autistic child who became very rough with Lucky to the point of being abusive. Poor Lucky was bullied by a dog & now a child. When he started being really abusive to her she started hiding all the time & licking all the fur off her belly due to her anxiety.
A relative stepped in & insisted she be surrendered to Paw in the Door.
We took her in immediately.
We were told she would hide & that she vomited often. They said she was too nervous to sit in your lap & she liked to be up high. They also said it was impossible to get her into a carrier so to be careful. It was reported she could only eat small bites cat food because she had a small mouth & problems with her jaw so she was very thin due to that.
We took her to our vet after she settled in for a few days though we didn't see any of that behavior...no vomiting, no hiding, in fact we could not get her off our laps! I was able to pick her up & place her gently into a carrier & she rode quietly all the way to our vet.
She stayed there all day for a comprehensive exam. The fur on her belly was growing back nicely & the lesions were healing. She did not have a small mouth or any issue with her job. No lasting signs of abuse so she was cleared for take off!
We have had her for about a month now & she is ready for a new home. She loves her companion visits but would love to have someone home more than companions are with her. She wants a bed to sleep on & an person of her own to love.
We have noticed when there is a new cat that is upset she starts her licking behavior again. She is nervous around other cats & if there is too much activity so it would be best if she went to a somewhat quiet home with no other pets. She deserves to be the only & not be bullied again. She needs to feel safe & loved.
If you can provide a safe & loving environment with no small children or other pets we would love to have you come to meet Lucky.
She does love to play & is under foot when you move around so not a great choice for an elderly, sedentary person.
