Louise's Story

Meet Louise! Louise is a beautiful 5-year-old black cat with a sleek coat, bright eyes, and a quiet elegance that makes her impossible to overlook. This lovely girl is ready to find a home where she can relax, feel loved, and enjoy life at her own pace!
With her age and calm presence, Louise would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a sweet feline friend to share cozy days and peaceful evenings. Whether she’s curled up in a sunny window, exploring her surroundings, or keeping you company nearby, Louise is sure to bring warmth and charm to her future home! Lousie's favorite activity is curling up in your lap and never wanting to leave! Volunteers have noted that Louise absolutely loves snuggling up with her humans and getting all the snuggles! We are unsure of Louise's history with other animals; we always recommend slow introductions in order to set everyone up for success!

Louise has tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). From the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine: "The primary mode of transmission for FIV is through bite wounds from an infected cat. Casual, non-aggressive contact, such as sharing water bowls or mutual grooming, does not appear to be an efficient route of spreading the virus. As a result, cats in households with stable social structures where housemates do not fight are at little risk of acquiring FIV infections. Sexual contact is not a significant means of spreading FIV among cats."

Though there is no cure for FIV, FIV+ cats commonly live average life spans. This virus can affect the immune system, so it is recommended for adopters to be diligent about any medical issues that the cat experiences and pursue veterinary care as needed. It is possible for there to be false positives, so adopters could choose to consult with their veterinarian and repeat a test or run more definitive tests than what the shelter has the resources to do. Any treatment or other veterinary costs associated with this condition will be the responsibility of the adopter.

Louise can be adopted as a solo cat, or live with other cats (FIV+ is recommended, though living with FIV- cats can be done); this is up to the adopter. If the adopter has any questions about bringing an FIV+ cat into their home, we recommend they speak with their veterinarian.

This pet is eligible for an Adoption Audition! What is an Adoption Audition? It’s a 5-day, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period. You can take this pet home to try it out! Interested? Come to the shelter any time during open hours and talk to one of our Customer Care staff!

Be sure to check the "shelter information" box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Michael R. Frey Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours! Both of our locations are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalservices/adopt
