LOCAL CAT, Onyx

This big, beautiful, funny and happy cat was brought to the shelter in late August by a Good Samaritan who had befriended him and fed him, and then took him to a vet for his medical needs. She thought he would just be a trap-neuter-release cat, and had his ear tipped to show he was such, but after a month or so of having him around she realized he was very adoptable as a companion cat, and brought him to us so he can find a home. He looks like a bruiser of a tomcat, but he’s just a big goofball! He loves every person he meets, and gets a little kooky when he happens upon a cat toy or we play with him with a wand toy. But most of the time he’s very content to just lounge on the ottoman at the shelter, waiting for someone to come and sit with him and bask in his glory. <br/><br/>Onyx has been fine with the other shelter cats, curious to meet them, but not really engaging too much with them. He should be fine living with another cat, as long as the other cat is a more submissive type, as he does have signs of alpha personality. Not aggressive, just that he expects to be the boss. We’re not sure how he feels about dogs, but he is a very confident cat, and will probably be fine living with a dog that is not aggressive towards cats. Onyx will be good with people of all ages, and will enjoy the company of children as well, but young children will need to be cautioned to not be fooled by his appeals to have his belly scratched when he gets riled up from playing. <br/><br/>Onyx is estimated to be 3 years old, is neutered, box-trained, current on vaccinations, tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia, and received de-wormers and flea treatments. Adoption fee is $125.
