LOCAL CAT, Jefferson

JEFFERSON is eager to declare independence! This beautiful long-haired boy, mostly black but with brown highlights, moved into our adoptable cat room in late July, after seeing the vet. He seemed very frightened and timid at first, but within days his sweet, shy nature emerged more, and he was soaking up the petting and love, and we were carrying him around all over the room, cuddling him on a lap, and giving him lots of kisses on his head. He is very fond of other cats, especially the other male cats in our care. He didn't even seem to notice when we brought a large dog into the room to gauge the reaction of the cats, so he will probably be fine living with a dog, as long as the dog is gentle and not aggressive towards smaller creatures. <br/><br/>Jefferson will enjoy the attentions of older children, but small children will have to be cautioned to not crowd him, due to his shy nature. It will be best to start him in a small, quiet room, a space where he can feel safe and connect with the people and pets in his new home, and not have places to hide. He never really hid from us at the shelter, though, but he does wait for us to go to him, for the most part. His transition won't take long, especially if there is another cat in the home.<br/><br/>Jefferson is estimated to be 3 years old, is neutered, box-trained, current on vaccinations, tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia, and received de-wormers and flea treatments. Adoption fee is $100. Personal checks are accepted from R.I. residents only; all others may pay by credit/debit card or money order, payable to "Town of Scituate." He doesn't need much of one, though, as he responds sweetly to all humans, given a little time to adjust to you.
