BENEDICT, SWEET TIGER BOY: He got his name because he betrayed animal control, escaping from his isolation cage... but what a surprise we got after he was neutered and moved into the cat room, and we found him to be a very content and happy boy, even a bit hesitant to leave his new cage and the cozy he fell in love with! But we didnt let him linger in that cozy, he was too sweet to leave in a cage, so once his convalescence was complete we got him right out, and right onto a lap, and found him to be the loveliest boy, a little shy at first, a bit submissive as well, but always happy to get some love and attention from his volunteers. Hes a little cautious with a more dominant male cat that hes out with, tries to make his acquaintance and show deference, and then tiptoes to a quiet retreat when the other cat says, Not interested. So, weve been bringing him into our kitten playroom to spend some time with two sweet mama cats when they are enjoying a respite from their rambunctious kittens, and they all just sit together, content to have some peace and quiet... and liberty!<br/><br/>Benedict tested positive for FIV, which is not a life-threatening virus, nor does it require any special medical care or treatment. Cats with FIV live long, healthy lives, same as FIV-negative cats, but they should be kept indoors to eliminate the risk of contracting other viruses, like upper respiratory infection. And its perfectly fine for FIV-positive cats to live with FIV-negative cats — odds of transmission are extremely low among neutered cats.<br/><br/>Benedict should be fine living with people of all ages, and other cats as well, as long as the other cats are fond of fellow felines. Were not sure how he feels about dogs, but he seems pretty mellow so its possible hell be okay living with a dog that is accustomed to cats. If you have a dog and are interested in Bennie, let us know and well get his opinion of one!<br/><br/>He is estimated to be 6 years old, is neutered, box-trained, current on vaccinations, tested negative for feline leukemia, and received de-wormers and flea treatments. Adoption fee is $75. Personal checks are accepted from R.I. residents only; all others may pay by credit/debit card or money order, payable to Town of Scituate.
