Little Boy's Story

Meet Little Boy!

A gentle six-year-old Domestic Long Hair currently in Amherst, MA, whose affectionate spirit, conversational nature, and handsome black coat make this 12-pound boy an unforgettable companion.

Little Boy is a huge sweetheart who wants to be part of everyday life! He thrives on frequent attention and a predictable routine where he can follow his people, chat about important cat business, and settle nearby for some quality togetherness. He enjoys firm petting, playful tussling, brushing, and, amusingly, a good rump pat! When he has had enough attention, he communicates politely by holding or gently pushing a hand away. Sometimes, when affection ends too soon, he will even pull your arm back toward him!

This social boy loves food-shaped catnip toys, rope, hair ties, resting, following people, and being followed himself. He has also mastered the charming habit of sitting at the table like an invited dinner guest! Visitors get to see his confident, friendly side, too.

Little Boy is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He has a history of anxiety and recently received dental care. His family should be prepared to continue supporting his veterinary, food, grooming, and litter needs.

His litter box habits are an important part of understanding what Little Boy needs. He reliably uses his boxes for bowel movements but frequently urinates in a standing, marking position, sometimes spraying the nearby wall. Stress and environmental changes appear to play an important role. Notably, after moving into a new home previously, his spraying stopped completely for about two months. It later increased alongside dental pain, reduced access to the home, and, more recently, sharing his environment with a dog. His spraying has improved significantly during periods of reduced stress and consistent routines, so a calm, stable environment would be best. He needs at least two very large boxes, including a large covered option, softer litter, and consistent daily cleaning.

Little Boy needs to be the only animal in his new family. He has not adjusted comfortably to cats or dogs, and his compatibility with children is unknown. A pet parent who is home most of the day, such as someone retired, working from home, or living in a multigenerational family, could give this people-loving boy the companionship he craves.

Could this talkative, affectionate gentleman be your new table guest, brushing buddy, and constant companion?

If you're interested in providing Little Boy with a loving home, please email adopt@joyfulpets.com for more information on adopting him! Please note that Little Boy will remain with his current family until a suitable new home is found for him.

Also, Little Boy is open to a long-distance adoption, love knows no distance when finding your perfect companion!

Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets. Joyful Pets Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
At Joyful Pets, our adoption process is designed to create a smooth, supportive experience for both pets and the families who welcome them. We feature pets who are being lovingly rehomed by their current families, as well as adoptable pets from our trusted rescue partners. You can start by browsing our adoptable pets on Petfinder. When you’re interested in a pet, select “Start Your Inquiry” on that pet’s profile to connect with us. If your home aligns with the pet’s needs, we’ll coordinate an introduction with the pet’s current family and arrange a meet-and-greet. Please note that pets listed through our rescue partners follow their own adoption process, requirements, and fees. These details are provided directly by the rescue. For pets rehomed through Joyful Pets’ direct rehoming program, adoption fees currently start at $150 for dogs, $95 for cats, and $50 for birds, rabbits, ferrets, or other small pets. When helpful, we may also offer a foster-to-adopt trial period so families and pets can ensure a great match before finalizing the adoption. We’re grateful that you’re choosing adoption and giving a pet the opportunity to join a caring family. Our goal is to make the process clear, joyful, and well-supported, with resources available every step of the way.
