Leonardo's Story
My Foster Wrires:
Leonardo is a little miracle of healing. His shelter pictures show him when his poor tail was still raw from his nervous habit of pulling out his own fur to deal with a situation - he can't tell me what it was but I hear it included animal, situational and human stressors - that was just too much for him. Now, finally, for the first time in his kitty life, he has space and quiet to himself, and has been able to show me and my friends what a real jewel he is. He starts purring halfway down the hall and will push his furry face into your hand in anticipation of pets. He runs after a ping pong ball as joyously as a little kitten. He's thrilled by the sights and sounds outside the window but is just as happy keeping company on a desktop or next to a good book. He can be content all by himself if that's what is called for, too. It's incredibly rewarding to offer him a place where he can be his best self, and that best self is everything a wonderful cat could ever offer.

What my friends at ACC say about me:
The staff think I would do best in a home where there are no other cats.
I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.
I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.
I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together!
Leonardo tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

A volunteer writes: We've heard Leonardo is playful and sweet when no one else is around, but as you can imagine that doesn't happen with much frequency in the busy shelter. Leonardo's a quiet guy who doesn't ask for much and he could use a little reassurance that this last point is indeed the case. Like a lot of cats, he prefers a calm and predictable place to call his own and though he hasn't found that just yet, he's hopeful and we are too. Brought to us from a home with other cats and dogs, Leonardo has tried and tried to make the shelter work. He came forward to say hello to me but wasn't sure about everything else happening in Adoptions, but still I admire his openness. His little tail bears the brunt of his confusion, but Leonardo wants the chance to be better or at least the chance for someone to take their time and learn more about him.
