Leo's Story

Hey there, I’m Leo. I’m a wild orange boy, about a year old, and I’ve got a story to tell you. It’s not a happy one—at least, not at first—but I really hope it ends with you.

I used to have a family. I thought they loved me. I thought I was safe. But one day, their dog attacked me—mauling me so badly that it shattered my jaw. I was bleeding. Broken. In excruciating pain. My family rushed me to the vet… and for a moment, I thought I was going to be okay.

But then they told the vet staff they were going to the car to grab their phone charger.

They never came back.

They never came back.

They didn’t call. They didn’t check in. They didn’t ask how I was doing. They blocked the clinic’s phone number.

They just walked away from me like I was nothing.

I would’ve died there. No one was going to pay for surgery. No one was going to save a bleeding, broken-jawed orange cat with no one to claim him.

But fate stepped in. Sunshine Animal Rescue just happened to be at the vet that day—dropping off another critical orange kitten, because I guess orange cats like me are magnetically drawn to chaos—and the vet asked them if they could help me. And they said yes.

They said yes when everyone else walked away.

That was months ago. My jaw? Perfect now. I’m healed. I’m neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and fully vetted. And I’ve returned to my natural state: a certified, unapologetic orange menace.

I wreak havoc daily. I launch sneak attacks from laundry baskets. I patrol the window sills like I own the place (because, let’s be honest, I kind of do). I chase shadows. I knock stuff off counters. I yell into the void. I zoom around at 3 a.m. I am exactly what you expect when you say “orange cat.”

But I’m also sweet. I love my kitty friends. I’ve lived around dogs—even big ones like 80-pound Golden Retrievers—and I do just fine. Despite what happened to me, I haven’t let fear win. I still want to love and be loved.

I’ve been around kids, too, and I could do well with them—just know I can play a little rough. Not because I mean to hurt anyone, but because sometimes I just get excited. So older kids might be a better fit for me.

Sunshine Animal Rescue has been amazing to me. They saved my life, gave me medical care, and helped me heal. But I’m not meant to live in a rescue. I’m meant to be someone’s best friend. I’m meant to sleep in your bed. I’m meant to watch birds from your windows. I’m meant to be loved—not abandoned. So what do you say? Could you be the ending to my story?

The family I should’ve had the first time around?

I’m located in Miami, but my rescue does transports up north all the time. All you have to do is apply. SunshineAnimalRescue.org/adopt.

I’m already packed. I’m already ready. I’ve been waiting for you. Please don’t make me wait much longer.

More of me at
Sunshineanimalrescue.org/leo
