Laney Domestic Short Hair Urbana, OH

Laney was found by a good Samaritan in the community who noticed she was unable to walk normally. She was examined by the vet who sees our cats each week. X-rays were taken later that day at his clinic, and the hip subluxation was diagnosed. Our vet recommended a Femoral Head Ostectomy for Laney. However, she had to wait several weeks until she was 4 months old and big enough to have this surgery. She was in foster care where she needed encouragement to eat. Her foster mom gave us the following description of Laney: “She spends her day laying down unless it's mealtime. She has been spending time with other foster kittens daily to keep her socialized and help her stay mobile and active as much as possible. She seems to really enjoy the company of these emotional support buddies. Laney enjoys being held, but care has to be taken when lifting her so as to not cause her pain. Once she's settled on a lap, she relaxes and purrs and often goes to sleep. She will play with ribbons and things that move but she doesn't walk more than is absolutely necessary. The vet thinks moving is painful for her so we usually interact with her in ways that limit walking. She is a sweet kitten and is very bonded to humans after spending so much time with her foster family.”
Laney has now received the required surgery to fix her hip and she is back at the shelter and available for adoption. She still limps, but is able to play with the other kittens and walk and explore. She is super sweet!
