Lady Liberty's Story

Rosie May Lady Liberty, or just Lady Liberty for short

This beautiful tortie has answered to many names throughout her journey. She first arrived in rescue as Rosie, and after raising a baby in the South, she and that kitten were scheduled to come north. Somewhere along the way, Rosie became May in her northern foster home. Then came a surprise that nobody saw coming: while waiting for transport, Rosie May had become pregnant again!

Once it became clear that she was expecting, she was moved to her final foster home where she could settle in and prepare for motherhood in peace. On the 4th of July, she gave birth to seven kittens, earning her most patriotic name yet: Lady Liberty.

Her kittens aren't quite ready for their spay and neuter surgeries yet, but you'll be able to spot them easily by their star-spangled names, even if they don't really look like her!

As for Lady Liberty herself, she is every bit the tortie queen. She loves affection and attention... until she doesn't. When she's had enough, she may offer a gentle swipe or a little nibble to let you know she's feeling overstimulated. Honestly, after raising seven babies, can you blame her?

She'll usually give a little warning hop before launching an attack, making it pretty easy to read her mood. She prefers head pets that come from the side rather than straight on, which helps her feel more comfortable and less threatened. She's a devoted mama who has worked hard and deserves a home where her boundaries are respected and her personality is appreciated.

Lady Liberty is independent, expressive, and full of character. Having gone from one surprise pregnancy to another, she's earned the chance to leave motherhood behind and spend the rest of her life being spoiled as somebody's beloved cat.

Looking for a cat with a great story, a little tortitude, and a whole lot of heart? Lady Liberty may be your girl.

Adoption Information

Prior to adoption, every cat in our care is spayed or neutered, microchipped, given age-appropriate vaccinations, treated for parasites, and combo-tested for FIV/FeLV. We make sure each cat is healthy, safe, and ready to thrive in their forever home.

Adoption Fees

Kittens (under 6 months): $175 or 2 for $300

Adults (over 6 months): $150

Seniors (10+) / Special Needs: $100

Please Note:

We cannot hold cats for any reason. Please only apply if you're ready to meet and welcome your new companion within 3 days of applying.

Kittens under 4 months must go to a home with another friendly feline, or be adopted with a buddy. (If a kitten is excluded from this rule, it will be noted in their profile.)

TO ADOPT, ONE MUST Have current photo identification with your current address Be willing and able to spend the time & money needed to care for your cat Carefully read the terms of our Adoption Contract and agree to its terms. Agree that if they cannot keep the cat they have adopted from St. Sophia’s, they must return the cat to us Agree to allow an authorized representative of St. Sophia’s to make an adoption follow-up THE PROCESS Adopting should never be an impulse decision — pets are for life. We respectfully ask that you come fully prepared to take on the care of a cat prior to filling out an application. On average, owning a cat costs $40 a month (food/litter/health), which is $480 annually. Cats (especially kittens) take lots of time, dedication, and love to grow and develop into loving and healthy household pets. Because we at St. Sophia’s pride ourselves in knowing our cats, we want what’s best for them, and to ensure they are going to good homes we conduct reference checks (personal and veterinary) in addition to the basic application. Please expect the adoption process to take at least 24 hours, and when your adoption is finalized, you’ll need to bring a carrier to take your new pet home in.
