KYRA's Story
Kyra: The Cat Who Doesn't Believe in Exes
Meet Kyra, an eight-year-old sweetheart with a past rougher than a McKees Rocks alley. After being discarded by her former owner (we use that term loosely), she waited faithfully on a porch, proving she's far too loyal for her own good.

The good news? Her waiting days are over. This girl knows what she wants—indoor luxury—and she's done with heartbreaks. She's incredibly sweet, excellent with other cats, and will adapt quickly to a loving home.

Bonus Feature: Kyra is a low-maintenance legend! She only has three teeth left, so you can practically shred your dental budget. More money for treats!

Give Kyra the forever sofa she truly deserves. She’s ready to prove that the best years are ahead.
Adopt Kyra: Loyalty guaranteed. Excessive chewing not.

Are you tired of filling out the long applications? Did no one get back to you? If they did, was the cat was already adopted? We do things the way we want to here at Save Our Strays. I was told no to adopting a cat before, from a very big rescue for a foolish reason. I know how you feel and all the BS some of those applications ask. We are all adults; I will tell you all my same spiel I tell everyone else, if you adopt from us. Do not declaw your cat, if the cat is sick- have enough money to take them to the vet. If you ever need me, call me. We talk to you and ask questions ourselves and we know the cats well. If we think it is not going to work out, we will let you know. Everyone who is able and willing, deserves the companionship of a cat. It's an art that we have purfected here!

Kyra was rescued from good ol’ McKees Rocks. In my mind when I first started rescuing, it started because of this area. In my mind, I would always think when I rescue the cats they were my “Mckees Rocks specials” . The one day I was talking about that and how they’re always just unique and beautiful cats, that need to be found, to one of my volunteers. That stuck and now we always refer to the cats from the Rocks as such. Most of them had a hard a$$ life before being rescued. Her backstory is like many others. She had a “home” they loved and left her. This man left her and told the neighbor she was found as a stray and she can still live as one. Elderly & missing a lot of teeth-this sweet girl made the best of it. The Cat distribution center landed her on a porch of a lady that I have helped many, many times down there. Kyra is SO loving and sweet. Gentle & kind with others. She of course likes to hang outside on the cat e o and watch the birds. So if you like to cuddle and snuggle and watch birds or TV-she is down.

If you’re interested in meeting KYRA, email SOS at saveourstrays.pgh@gmail.com or call/text (412) 863-0064 to arrange your visit.
During your visit, feel free to spend time with the cat you want to meet, but also take a look around. We always have cats with a wide variety of ages, coat patterns/lengths, and personalities. High energy antics? You bet. Couch potatoes? Check. Sweet, purring snugglers? Roger that. And please don’t overlook the shy wallflower who keeps glancing your way—introverts need love too. Often times, a cat is simply overwhelmed with their new rescue
environment and will blossom in a calmer home environment. Spend some time with our cats, watch them interact with each other and with you, and get their “vibe.” You’ll know the right cat—sometimes you choose and sometimes they choose you.

Since 2020, SOS has rescued and adopted more than 1,000 stray cats in the Pittsburgh area. Included in our adoption fee is full vetting. All of our cats are dewormed, have received Capstar for any flea issues and Selamectin for any parasites, received two FVRCP vaccines as well as their rabies vaccine, are treated for ear mites (if needed), are combo tested for FeLV and FIV, and are microchipped which will transfer to you. Once the adult cats are fully vetted and vaccinated, they freely roam across two floors and (Pittsburgh weather permitting…) also spend time in an outside Catio to soak up the sunshine.
We also have a free-roaming room for the fully vetted kittens to play, run, and practice their fancy acrobatics and sideways kitten shuffles.

SOS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our adoption fee, along with donations, allow us to tend to our rescued cats in the manner in which they deserve: fully vetted and fully cared for. We also allocate funds to continue TNR (trap, neuter, and release) efforts for all of the strays who are too unsocialized and human-adverse for an indoor home. By spaying/neutering, these
cats live a healthier life and no longer contribute to increasing the stray cat population.

When you adopt a cat from SOS, you’re doing more than giving a cat a good home. You’re also helping those stray cats who cannot be homed. One cat’s adoption improves multiple cats’ lives.

About SOSs Founder: Faon traps, rescues, and gives shelter to the SOS cats; they reside on the upper two floors of her home which have been modified to best meet the cats’ needs. She is extremely knowledgeable about each cat in her care and is happy to assist you finding the one who best matches your lifestyle and your home. She, along with a small team of dedicated women volunteers, work with SOS cats who have been rescued from a wide range of outside scenarios (some being outright deplorable) and transform them through veterinary care, socialization and behavioral work, and a whole lot of love into happy, healthy, and thriving cats.

Email SOS at saveourstrays.pgh@gmail.com or call/text (412) 863-0064 to arrange your visit.

Your new best friend is waiting for you
