Please read through the entire posting and requirements before applying via our questionnaire at https://alleycatproject.org/adopt<br/>Please do not submit an inquiry via Petfinder.<br/><br/>Meet Kurt and Gitta — a bonded pair of approximately 1-year-old kitties looking for a patient adopter who understands that the best relationships are built on trust and taking things one day at a time.<br/><br/>Kurt (male greybie with lightly visible stripes) and Gitta (female black panther with striking golden eyes) were discovered as a stray litter in a crawlspace and have spent the past several months in foster care learning how to be indoor cats.<br/><br/>Kurt is the more sensitive of the pair. Hes currently taking fluoxetine to help manage his anxiety, and it has made a noticeable difference in his confidence. Hes still skittish, especially with new people or sudden movements, but every week he becomes a little braver. Once he feels safe, his playful personality shines through. <br/><br/>Gitta is curious and independent. Shes often the first to investigate whats happening around the house and is comfortable hanging out in the same room with visitors, even if she prefers to keep a little distance. Shes still not comfortable being picked up or handled, but shes making steady progress with her foster family and continues to surprise them with her growing confidence.<br/><br/>Kurt and Gitta were discovered along with their sister Freddie, also available for adoption, they have made incredible progress and continue to grow more comfortable every day, but they definitely are not yet lap cats. They need someone who understands feline body language, celebrates small wins, and is happy to let them come around at their own pace.<br/><br/>Both Kurt and Gitta were born with deformed web feet, but dont let that fool you—they dont let it slow them down one bit. They run, climb, wrestle, chase toys, and do everything other young cats love to do. Kurt loves a spring toy and Gitta is fond of Da Bird.<br/><br/>Both cats love wand toys, Cat TV, climbing to the highest perch they can find (yes, counters included), and racing through the house together. Their biggest bursts of energy come in the morning and after dinner, while the rest of the day is reserved for expert-level napping. Their foster family allows them on the counters because encouraging their confidence and socialization is more important than discouraging that behavior at this stage of their development.<br/><br/>The biggest challenge with these two is handling. While they allow pets on their terms, picking them up is not yet in the cards. They are currently being trained to be desensitized to a carrier. Their adopter will receive instructions on how to manage this process moving forward.<br/><br/>At a meet-and-greet, Kurt and Gitta probably wont show you their full personalities. Theyll likely be shy and cautious—and thats okay. Their foster family has watched them blossom over time and has plenty of videos showing the playful, goofy, relaxed cats they become once they feel safe.<br/><br/>Theyve been fostered in a home with four resident cats, a dog so theyre accustomed to other animals. However, they would likely thrive best in a quieter household where they can continue building confidence at their own pace.<br/><br/>What they're looking for in a home:<br/><br/> - They want to stay together forever and must be adopted as a pair.<br/> - They're new to indoor life with humans, so they need a kind and patient guide to help them continue adjusting. Loud noises, fast movements, and strangers can make them nervous.<br/> - They can get nervous, so they need a kind and patient guide to help them feel comfortable with new experiences. <br/> - They'll need extra time and TLC to build trust.<br/> - They have a fair amount of energy and will benefit from plenty of active play time.<br/> - They feel at ease in a quiet and calm environment.<br/> - They need to live indoors only.<br/> - They have a positive history with other cats and may like having another feline friend close to their age. Slow introductions are a must.<br/> - They have a positive history with dogs, but require slow introductions with a cat-savvy dog. <br/> - They have no known history with children and it is advised that they need an adult-only home (respectful teenagers would be OK)<br/><br/>All Alley Cat Projects cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption.<br/><br/>Alley Cat Project adoption fees are:<br/><br/> - $200 per cat or kitten<br/> - $350 for pair of cats or kittens<br/> - $50 for senior cat (over 8 years old)<br/> - Flexible reduced fees for a cat with a chronic medical condition that requires ongoing care<br/> - Additional charitable donations are appreciated and support our overall rescue efforts<br/><br/>Thank you for your interest in Kurt and Gitta!
