Kobe — A Very Special Boy Looking for a Very Special Home<br/><br/>This is going to be a little longer, but if you are a true cat person looking for one of the most special boy I have met in over 11 years of fostering, please take the time to read Kobes story.<br/><br/>Kobe was found in April in the Cub Foods parking lot in Minnetonka. Banfield Pet Hospital reached out to Last Hope to ask if we could take him in. He was very thin and had severe frostbite on his ears, as you can see in the first pictures, but even after everything he had clearly been through, they said he was unbelievably sweet.<br/><br/>At the time, I had no open foster homes and my own house was already full, but I knew we had to try. Thankfully, we were able to find someone willing to foster him.<br/><br/>At first, it did not look like Kobe had a microchip, but one was eventually found. It was registered to Minneapolis Animal Care & Control, so I called to learn as much as I could about him.<br/><br/>What I found out broke my heart.<br/><br/>Kobe had lived in a home for the first two years of his life, but he was not very loved and was with someone who really did not want him. He was not neutered, had no vaccines, and was eventually dropped off at MACC and left behind. Because he was such a nice cat, they vetted him, and he was adopted within a week.<br/><br/>But shortly after that, it appears he was dumped outside in the middle of winter. He spent the next several months trying to survive outside until someone finally brought him in.<br/><br/>Kobe went to his foster home, and on the very first night, his kind foster mom went to lay by him on the couch. Something must have scared him, and he bit her badly. When I went to pick him up, he was completely in fight-or-flight mode. It was heartbreaking to see how terrified he was.<br/><br/>Some people recommended euthanasia, but I just could not give up on him.<br/><br/>I took him to the vet, and we found out he had something in his stomach that required surgery. It ended up being a plastic cup. Kobe had been eating out of dumpsters all winter, and we believe he was so desperate for food that he swallowed it because there was likely something on it.<br/><br/>After surgery, I brought Kobe to my house, and he has been with me ever since.<br/><br/>And I can honestly say this: Kobe is one of the best cats I have ever met.<br/><br/>He is loving, loyal, gentle, and deeply attached to his person. He follows me everywhere. Not in an annoying way — just in the sweetest, most devoted way. Wherever I am, Kobe is nearby. When I leave, he scratches at the door and waits for me to come home. Every single time I walk in, he is there to greet me.<br/><br/>He has been through more than any cat should ever have to go through, yet he still wants love. He still trusts. He still wants to be someones best friend.<br/><br/>Kobe did lose part of his ear after the frostbite damage fell off, but to me, it is just part of what makes him so special. His before-and-after pictures show just how far he has come.<br/><br/>I am not looking for just any home for Kobe. I am looking for the right home, and I am willing to wait until we find it.<br/><br/>Kobe needs a quiet, calm home with no children. He would do best with someone who is home a lot and wants a true companion.
