Kia (in foster home)'s Story
Kia is a sweet & shy Bengal/Domestic short hair mix who is residing in her foster home. Please submit an application if you are interested in Kia, and the WHS foster coordinator will arrange a meeting for you by appointment.

This sweet young lady is looking for a home with low foot traffic, without cats or dogs in the home. The following is what Kia's foster mom has to say about her! As you can tell from the description, she's timid but after settling in she's quite a joy to have around!:

"My name is Kia and I'm a little lovebug. When I first moved in with my foster mom I was really scared. My favorite place was under the dresser. I snuck out at night to eat and use the litter box. My foster mom started reaching under the dresser to let me sniff her hand. This was OK, then I wanted more. I started purring and head bumping her hand, she started giving me neck scratches. I wanted more so came out from under the dresser. Now I enjoy looking out the window and sitting in my foster mom's lap for cuddles. I like to play and snack on catnip and am quite talkative. When I first moved in and was scared I hissed to let her know I was keeping my eyes on her and needed some space. My mom respects my boundaries and always let's me sniff her hand before petting me. I don't hiss anymore and communicate with meows. I still need a safe space, that's where I spent most of July 4th, all that noise was too scary for me.
I've been using my litter box and haven't had any accidents.
If you're looking for a cat that enjoys cuddles, a lap to curl up in, some playtime and a story to tell, I'm your girl. "

-Personality: Quiet, Mellow, Gentle
-Can Live with Cats: No, has a history of getting bullied by other cats
-Can Live with Dogs: No, too scary for Kia
-Can Live with Kids: Most likely a no. Older teens would be okay though!
-Needs Indoor Only Home: Yes
-History of Litter Box Issues: Sadly Kia was surrendered for suddenly having urine accidents, but our Vet tested her urine and she actually just had a UTI. Kia is now on a prescription diet of C/D food, and she has not had any accidents since the switch. She will just need to stay on her prescription diet permanently to keep her healthy and accident-free.
-Energy Level: Low/medium
-Bite History: None
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: No, all ready to go home.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
