Kelo & Oreo's Story

Kelo & Oreo came to us separately but have since become a bonded pair & really need to stay together. Both of them had suffered great loss & needed someone to be happy again.
Kelo came to us in February (on valentine's day) after being left alone in his former home after his person passed away 10 months prior. The family had promised their dad that they would take care of Kelo & find him a home.
They continued to go into the home every week or so & put down a bag of dry food, fill some water dishes & change his litterbox. Kelo was heartbroken without his dad & never came out of hiding for 10 months. They knew he was there but never saw him. He would come out & eat & use his box only after no one was there. During this time there was an estate sale where most items were removed & still Kelo stayed waiting for his dad to return.
The family decided to sell the home & told the realtor about Kelo who enlisted our help in trapping him to get him out. We went out to try to see if he would come out for us but Kelo remained in hiding. We put food only in the trap & on day 3 Kelo surrendered & went into the trap. We brought him to our Paw Palace which is our facility where cats recover from trauma & learn to love, trust & play again.
After such a trauma we did not think Kelo would recover easily.
Kelo hid under his sofa for a few weeks not coming out for our cat companions but started with slow blinks. He finally started accepting pats & chin strokes & would come out only for some companions if they sat on the floor with him. We were grateful for each day that he progressed but he was still very shy & scared.
Enter Oreo. Oreo came to us after his owner passed away suddenly & he had been left in his apartment until his social worker called us to see if we could take him when it was time that they had to move all the mans belongings out.
Oreo was only 11 months old but had lived with another cat that they had already found a home for. We were Oreo's last chance. We took Oreo in & he too started out by hiding under the sofa in his room. A sweet & friendly boy he came out quite soon for play & petting.
When Kelo was out during his roaming time he was always at Oreo's door looking in at him & putting his Paw under the door. Oreo started coming to the door & reaching back & our companions started with them playing under the door until we let them both out for supervised roaming in the house & they became inseparable. Best friends suddenly Oreo was happy & Kelo was shy no more!
Oreo plays longer & harder than Kelo but after play time they cuddle up together for a snooze. You never see one without the other & we can't imagine separating them because if one goes around the corner the other comes searching for his buddy!
Both of these boys are neutered & ready for a new lifelong home together. These are 2 of the most wonderful cats we have had & just melt our hearts. Both boys are FIV/FELV negative & have been microchipped. Oreo is completely vaccinated & Kelo will be vaccinated by our vets before going home.
