Julia's Story
Julia is 11 years old and was rescued along with thirteen other cats from a home with unsanitary conditions. They were afraid, but despite their past with very little human interaction, they are slowly learning to trust our volunteers and have made excellent progress. They have done well adjusting to the noise and chaos of a new environment and are beginning to overcome their lack of socialization.

All of them were very timid and unsure of physical touch, but Julia was extremely startled by it. We realized she was not following our hand movements or making eye contact, and she had no idea we were approaching to pet her. Julia was found to have limited vision, but this has not slowed her down! She likes to paw at toys and enjoys the softness of the plush mice.

Due to her vision impairment, we feel Julia would do best in a quiet, low-traffic home with other cats. She was used to having feline company for over a decade, and other cats have no doubt helped her navigate the world. We know someone will see the potential she has and be able to give her the safe and loving home she so desperately needs. She will thrive in the right environment!

Stop by to fill out an adoption application and spend as much time as you like with our cats. We do not adopt first come; we always select the best placement for our animals. Please call your veterinarian to permit them to speak with us for our vet check. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) that you are allowed to have a cat.

Our adoption fee is $50 for cats. This includes FIV/FeLV testing, flea/tick preventatives, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines, and spay/neuter if six months or older. If they are too young, we require a $50 deposit that will be refunded upon proof that the pet has been altered.

For more info on our shelter and available pets, check us out online:

West Milford Animal Shelter Society
Lycosky Drive, West Milford, NJ 07480
(973) 728-2859

Visiting Hours
Mon - Fri: 10 - 1
Wed Night: 7:30 - 9
Weekends: 10 - 3
