Josie's Story

Josie was discovered in a cardboard box with her kittens on the side of the road. We do not know why she was discarded, or any details about her life up until that point, but we were determined to give her the care she deserved going forward.

Josie now resides in our Middle Cattery with some feline friends. She is about 1 year old and very timid, understandably so, and she enjoys being softly spoken to by our volunteers. We sit next to her and offer little treats, and Josie sniffs our fingers to see if we have any left. She likes the beds that hug her sides, and we know one day she will love hugs from us, too.

Josie looks to other cats for comfort and would feel safe in a home with a few kitty companions. Josie cannot wait to meet the cat whisperer who can give her the time she needs to become brave and outgoing. We know she has it in her!

Stop by to fill out an adoption application and spend as much time as you like with our cats. We do not adopt first come; we always select the best placement for our animals. Please call your veterinarian to permit them to speak with us for our vet check. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) that you are allowed to have a cat.

Our adoption fee is $50 for cats. This includes FIV/FeLV testing, flea/tick preventatives, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines, and spay/neuter if six months or older. If they are too young, we require a $50 deposit that will be refunded upon proof that the pet has been altered.

For more info on our shelter and available pets, check us out online:

West Milford Animal Shelter Society
Lycosky Drive, West Milford, NJ 07480
(973) 728-2859

Visiting Hours
Mon - Fri: 10 - 1
Wed Night: 7:30 - 9
Weekends: 10 - 3
