Josephine - In foster - Call for appt's Story

Last fall, AWL shared about taking in over 30 cats from a hoarding situation and Josephine was one of them. At 1.5 years old, she was a mom pulled from an overwhelming environment and placed into a completely unfamiliar space with strangers, all while trying to keep her babies safe.A lot of things changed all at once, and she was scared of everyone! She believed hiding was her best option. What Josephine needed most was time to decompress and that time made all the difference.

Today, Josephine is a completely different cat now that she is comfortable in her foster home! She's a low impact house companion who enjoys lounging in the same room as her people, occasionally checking in on what you're doing before settling back into a cozy spot nearby. She loves Churu treats and boiled chicken. She very much has "treat-motivated bravery." She's comfortable around other cats and calm dogs! And when she feels safe, Josephine has allowed gentle handling, nail trims, and even enjoys chin scratches, showing just how much trust she's capable of building.

She may never be a clingy lap cat, but she's already showing curiosity and gentle affection in her own way. Josephine isn't looking for constant attention. She's looking for security, patience, and a quiet place to belong.

In a new home, she may be shy at first and use a little hissing to communicate her boundaries. With patience and consistency, she relaxes and shows her softer side. The right home for Josephine understands that trust is built, not rushed.

Josephine is available for appointment only meet and greets and may be shy during visits as she gets to know new people and spaces. If you think your home could be the safe forever place Josephine has been waiting for, please reach out to schedule a visit. ❤️Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at info@awlwarsaw.com if you have any questions about me! Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County's Adoption Policy
Out of county adopters are also welcomed. -------------------------------------------------------- The procedure for adopting one of our animals is as follows: You walk in, either by appointment or as a walk-in, and our adoption tech will take you to meet the pets. If any of the animals interest you, you can take them out of their cages and spend time with them in a cuddle room or take a walk outside with them (for dogs). Our staff will then answer any questions you may have, explain our trial adoption process to you (explained below) and help you decide if this pet is the perfect fit for your family! If you are adopting a dog and there is another dog in your home, we ask you to come back for an assisted meet and greet with your current pet! You then sign our contract and staff will approve of it before asking for your ID and method of payment. Once we have all of the information we need, you can take your pet home! It's that easy! We try to make the adoption process simple and enjoyable for you and your new pet. Please come in for a visit and give us a try! Trial Adoption: We highly recommend our trial adoption program where you pay for the pet up front (there is no extra fee for the trial) and then take it home for about 5-7 days (we are flexible with this) to see how it fits in with your lifestyle and other pets in the home. If everything works out, great, just call us and let us know you want to finalize and that is when you receive the microchip number and medical papers as well as a goody bag! If it doesn't work out, you bring the pet back and you will receive a full refund. Nursery Nanny Program: We also offer a nursery nanny program for our kittens! If you find one you like, you can take it home the same day even if it is not spayed/neutered yet. We ask that you bring it back for the kitten's spay/neuter date and if it needs to return for any vaccinations! We don't finalize the adoption until the kitten has been spayed/neutered and caught up on vaccines. ADOPTION FEES: $180 for puppies under 9 months, $150 for dogs up to 5 years, $75 for senior dogs, $105 for kittens under 9 months, $95 for adult cats up to 5 years and $65 for senior cats. Fees include: spay/neuter, microchip & registration, vaccines for the year, including the rabies vaccine, and flea & tick and heartworm preventatives
