Jolene's Story

Jolene, Jolene... Please Don't Take This Sweet Girl Home... Unless You're Ready to Love Her Forever!

Her name may be Jolene, but unlike the famous song by Dolly Parton, this lovely girl isn't here to steal anyone away. She's simply hoping someone will choose her. And once you meet her, it's easy to see why she just might capture your heart.

Jolene is a beautiful 2 year old tabby who came to us at the end of June after being transferred from another rescue organization. We don't know exactly how she entered the shelter system, but her tipped ear offers a clue to her past. An ear tip is a small, painless procedure performed while a cat is under anesthesia to identify cats that have been through a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. TNR is a humane approach to managing community cat populations by trapping outdoor cats, having them spayed or neutered and vaccinated, and then returning them to their outdoor homes.

In Jolene's case, someone recognized that she was simply too social to spend her life on the streets. She clearly enjoys people and is more than happy to let you know it!

If you're looking for a conversational companion, Jolene is ready for the job. She's wonderfully chatty and isn't shy about sharing her opinions. She especially loves being petted and if you stop before she's ready, don't be surprised if she lets out an adorable meow of protest to encourage you to continue.

Jolene also has a playful side. She enjoys chasing bells and squeaky toys and she can turn something as simple as a blanket into an adventure, happily hiding underneath it or pouncing from beneath the folds. Her curiosity and playful spirit make everyday moments entertaining.

While Jolene enjoys affection, she's also an independent lady. She's not a fan of being picked up, preferring to interact with people on her own terms. She'll happily come to you for pets and attention when she's ready, making the affection she gives feel all the more special.

At 2 years old, Jolene is at a fantastic age to adopt. She's outgrown the whirlwind kitten phase but still has plenty of youthful energy, curiosity and playfulness. Her personality is well established, so you'll know exactly who you're welcoming into your home, and she has many wonderful years of companionship ahead.

If you've been waiting for a cat with a big voice, an even bigger heart and just the right amount of independent spirit, come meet Jolene. We have a feeling that once she starts singing the song of her people and asking for just one more pet, you'll be singing her praises, too.

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!
