Janine

Janine is a beautiful tortoiseshell female kitten born May 12, 2026. She came to Edgar & Ivy's when she was only four weeks old along with her mother and two siblings. The little family was suffering from a severe case of feline herpes virus and needed intensive care to recover.<br/><br/>Thanks to dedicated medical treatment and lots of love, Janine made a wonderful recovery. She does have some scarring on one of her eyes, but it does not affect her vision or her quality of life. Like many cats who recover from feline herpes virus, Janine will remain a lifelong carrier. This simply means the virus may become active during times of stress, but for most cats it causes only occasional mild symptoms, if any.<br/><br/>Feline herpes virus is extremely common in cats and cannot be spread to people or dogs. Most cats that have been properly vaccinated have significant protection against severe illness, and cats with feline herpes live long, happy, normal lives. Many of the cats in homes and shelters today are carriers without their families ever realizing it.<br/><br/>Janine has overcome a difficult beginning and is now a sweet, playful little girl looking for a family who will see past her history and recognize the wonderful companion she is.
