Jamal

Jamal came from a residential area that was overrun with stray adult cats and kittens. They were being fed by a resident and the his neighbors were so upset with the volume of strays that they began poisoning them. We found a few deceased, few gasping their last breaths, and many disappeared (we are guessing they went off to die). The rest of the kittens have been rescued and are in foster care, the adult cats remaining have been trapped, spayed/neutered, and released back. All the cats in our care are vaccinated and spayed/neutered. <br/><br/>When Jamal was brought into CDC, he was having a hard time adjusting to the shelter life. He lost his Mama a little too early on in life and was brought in with his sister, Jane. He and Jane would cower behind each other in an office file cabinet all day, and would rarely let anyone touch them. Sometimes Jamal even panted to the point of hyperventilating if someone got too close- never spicy or mean, just a very frightened boy. One of the office volunteers saw Jamal’s potential to be a loving companion beneath all that fear and decided to give him a better chance to come out of his shell by splitting up the duo and fostering him. Immediately upon arrival at his foster home, Jamal started opening up to his foster parents, and with a some encouragement from his new feline foster siblings, a little bit of patience, and a whole lot of Churu treats, Jamal has drastically transformed into the energetic and affectionate boy he is today. <br/><br/>Jamal’s Ins for 2025:<br/>-Playing with his toys (get this guy a string/wand toy and he’ll play with you for hours!)<br/>-Playing with other kitties (Jamal is the ultimate play-time pal)<br/>-Lying on the bed with his foster parents and being pet<br/>-Lying by his foster parents while they work<br/>-Rolling around on his back to request prolonged belly rubs and then playing with his human’s hands (this guy makes a game out of everything)<br/>-Watching the neighborhood kids get on the bus through the window<br/>-Squeezy Churu treats (this love transcends all)<br/> <br/>Jamal’s forever home will likely require quite a bit of patience. He still experiences a little shyness in new environments or with new people, but with enough time to adjust, love, and Churus (seriously, we cannot stress this enough!!) he consistently overcomes it. He will likely not do well in a house with young children or dogs (though he hasn’t been tested with a canine companion), because loud noises still have a tendency to spook him. He will need an owner who understands that this adjustment may take a while, and will excel in a house with another cat that can show him the ropes. Take a chance on this boy, and in return you are gaining the sweetest, gentlest, and most loving companion you could ask for!<br/><br/>Jamal is the cutest! Jamal is about 8 months old. He is initially shy but he sure does love to be pet and loves to play with toys. Jamal is an incredibly sweet and affectionate boy that is playful as can be, especially with other cats. Since being at his foster home, he has really come out of his shell and is often seeking comfort and affection from his foster parents. He loves chasing his string toys and foster siblings' tails, as well as rolling around on one of his cozy blankets and asking for belly rubs. He will definitely need another kitty friend in the household. Jamal will need a patient owner and will excel in a house with another cat that can show him the ropes.
