Isabella's Story

From Fear to Love - Isabella & Pepa's Journey

Meet Isabella (the elegant tuxedo) and Pepa (the sweet tabby & white) - two incredibly bonded sisters who have already survived so much and are now looking for a special, quiet forever home together.

These girls came into rescue back in January, part of a group of 8 cats whose elderly owner was battling dementia. Despite her declining health, it was clear she loved her cats deeply - they were altered, gentle, and trusting beneath their fear. But years without proper care had taken a serious toll. They arrived with severe dental disease, untreated ear mites that had caused painful polyps, malnourishment, infections, and dull, lifeless coats. All they had ever known was each other and their human - and then suddenly, that world was gone.

Isabella, the tuxie, was in the worst shape - dangerously underweight, severe dental infection, and a mysterious heart rhythm issue. After months of vet visits, antibiotics, love, and eventually a major dental (most of her teeth were removed), something beautiful happened. Her heart issue resolved on its own, her coat is now glossy, and she plays like a kitten again. She still doesn't like being picked up, but will happily come to you for love - especially at night, when she seems to crave affection the most.

Pepa had the worst ear infections and the most advanced ear polyps of the group. She also developed an enlarged thyroid and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism - though thankfully she remains asymptomatic. With vet care, steroids, dental work (only two teeth removed), and lots of patience, her numbers improved significantly. We're now monitoring her thyroid every six months in hopes it stabilizes fully on its own. She is affectionate, will jump in your lap, and soak up your love once she trusts you - but like Isabella, that trust takes time.

These girls are incredibly bonded and must stay together. They rely on each other deeply. But they also need to be the only cats in the home. Isabella, despite her gentle nature with humans, is aggressively territorial with other cats.

We're not going to sugarcoat it: these girls will need time, patience, and a calm home to feel safe. It took them three months here before they started to seek affection. They still like to hide, but in the quiet of evening, they blossom.

Spayed
Up-to-date on vaccines
Eating both wet and dry food (yes, even Isabella with only 4 teeth!)
Will likely hide at first - maybe for weeks - but the love they eventually give is worth every minute of the wait.

If you believe in second chances, in quiet moments of trust, and in giving a forever home to cats who have already come so far, Isabella & Pepa are waiting for you.

Please reach out if you're the person who can give them the peace, patience, and love they deserve.
