Houdini aka Dini's Story

Houdini is a domestic short haired, grey tuxedo, neutered male cat with an estimated date of birth of the last week of May 2025. Houdini was rescued from a household where he was placed at 4 weeks old and too young to be separated from his mother. Houdini was named after the famous illusionist and escapologist since Houdini was so thin and tiny that he managed to squeeze his way out of an enclosed folding wire dog crate with 1.5 inch spaces between the wire bars.

Houdini was adopted as a kitten into a home with Vaughn in Nov. 2025. However, Houdini was surrendered back to the rescue in Sept. 2026 due to a job loss, a relationship break up, and a move far from the Fargo, ND area. Houdini is a happy, healthy, affectionate cat who recovered well from his initial neglectful and sickly circumstances. Houdini does not need to be adopted with Vaughn although the 2 young male cats do well with each other

Houdini was reportedly being fed soy milk in his first home, and this is a totally inappropriate food for a young kitten weaned from his mother way too early. In addition, Houdini had a huge roundworm burden and a stubborn upper respiratory infection that inhibited his weight gain once placed on age and nutritionally appropriate kitten food. Houdini also had roughly half of his whiskers cut off, and it took over 2 months for his whiskers to reach half the length of his uncut whiskers. After numerous de-wormings and antibiotic treatments, plus patient and kind handling, Houdini has become an affectionate kitty who enjoys snuggles and usually lays on the couch next to you.

Houdini has shown a fear response to children, and it is suspected that young, not properly supervised children traumatized Houdini with their handling of him by picking him up and restraining him for periods of time that were too uncomfortably long for him. Therefore, a home with children older than 12 years may be considered on an individual basis if a meet and greet goes well at Houdini's foster home. Houdini is a sweet and affectionate kitty once he feels safe and comfortable with you.

Neutered; current on vaccinations; negative for both feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus; de-wormed; litter box trained; and microchipped. Houdini gets along with other cats. Unknown with dogs, but Houdini got very scared when he heard a dog barking while in the exam room of a veterinarian clinic.

Far North Feline Rescue's Adoption Policy
Initial contact is usually made via email. Potential adopters are asked to provide basic information such as if they rent or own their residence; have any other pets in the household; have any children in the household; and if they are an established client with a veterinary clinic. Answers to these questions help us determine the best fit for them among the cats available for adoption. Then a meet and greet is set up for that cat in the foster home where more questions can be asked, and the adopter and cat interaction can be observed. Our adoption process is NOT that the first one to contact us is the one who gets to adopt the kitten/cat, and that can be difficult for certain potential adopters to accept. Our goal is to put the kitten or cat in the right home the first time. We allow for a 2 week trial period and the cat or kitten can then be returned to us without judgment and the adoption fee refunded.
