Honey Locust had a heartbreaking beginning.<br/><br/>At some point in her young life, she was abandoned and left to fend for herself. In early March, terrified and desperate, she was chased up into a Honey Locust tree—where she became trapped for three days during a freezing rain storm. She was cold, frightened, alone, and had nowhere to turn.<br/><br/>But saving Honey Locust from that tree was only the beginning. She was semi-feral and deeply afraid of people. After being abandoned by the humans who should have cared for her, she had every reason not to trust again. For six long months, Honey Locust lived in a crate in a heated garage with her foster mom. Slowly, patiently, day by day, she began to learn that not every human would hurt or abandon her.<br/><br/>And then something beautiful happened. Honey was given the freedom to roam the garage. She could sit by the window, watch the world outside, and explore her surroundings. For the first time, she was beginning to feel safe.<br/><br/>She learned to trust.<br/>She learned to seek affection.<br/>She learned to give affection.<br/>And she discovered that she really, truly wants to be loved.<br/><br/>But Honey Locust still needs someone to take the next step with her. Her foster mom is unable to adopt her, and Honey needs a very special person who understands that trust cannot be rushed. She would do best as the only cat in the home. She isn’t comfortable with other cats yet, and she needs someone who will be patient with her fear of change. Her new person will need to be willing to crate Honey for the first several weeks or longer, giving her the time and security she needs to form a trusting bond and understand that she is safe. This isn’t going to be an overnight transformation. But Honey has already shown us what she is capable of.<br/><br/>- She needs one person willing to believe in her as much as her foster mom does.<br/>- She needs one person who will look past the “rough edges” and see the loving cat she is becoming.<br/>- She needs one person who will say, “You don’t have to be afraid anymore. I’m not going anywhere.”<br/><br/>We are looking for a patient, compassionate foster or foster-to-adopt home willing to give Honey Locust the time, safety, and unconditional love she deserves.<br/>She has already proven that she can learn to trust.
