Hobbs ***Special needs: knee tear, old wound, behavioral concerns***'s Story
Hobbs: vicious serial mouse killer disguised as an adorable love bug

Hobbs's story: Hey. So, I got this cut out on the streets, Some guy scooped me up and took it upon themselves to bring me to a hospital where I was stitched up... And... Neutered! That was a 2 for one deal, I guess. They didn't ask me!

Then the hospital called Fitchburg Friends of Felines to take me. Because the wound was of unknown origin I had to be in solitary confinement for four whole months due to the law. Luckily I got the lap of luxury in my room without anyone but me and my foster mom and a bunch of toys and big windows. It gave us plenty of time to get acquainted.

I definitely needed that time. When I first came to the house, the Foster called me perpetually confused. I would get all excited and happy and purr away and rub up against her legs and flop for attention. Then I would climb up her legs and attack them. Then I would flop again, rub against her leg, and attack them... then... again... then... again... But her arbor pants protected her from getting clawed and she kept trying to pet me every time I tried to attack her!

I then realized that her pets were really better than attacking her legs, so I completely forgot about attacking. In fact, I became this huge love bug!

I now have decided to be cute and adorable and earn my keep. I have many jobs in the household. One is my Foster's alarm clock. I lay on my foster every morning and do biscuits every AM at 6:20 exactly. After 29 minutes of love time after waking her from her beauty sleep, I get treats as my pay. Not a bad deal!

I also have taken up the job as a leg duster. Whatever my foster comes into the room, I rub up against her leg until all dust is removed from them. Not that there's a lot of dust but I'm sure we just can't see it. I'm sure she appreciates my hard work.

My most important role is security. Admittedly, I am fantastic at it. Any unwanted guests are immediately taken out and executed. My foster mom has an old house. Mice seem to believe that her house is their house. I put an end to that quickly. Sometimes my foster mom hears me in the middle of the night with my next kill and distracts me while I have a mouse and then the mouse gets free. He lives to see another day. I will just get him tomorrow.

So, about my adorableness: I am king of making biscuits. I actually have a favorite blankie that I make biscuits on all the time. My foster puts it over her at night so I also do biscuits on her when she is wearing my blankie. I share.

I'm also a vocal guy. I need a cat savvy family that recognizes my cues and knows when my vocal is just a hi or okay I'm done with attention for now. I do have some quirks. I get overstimulated on occasion, so a cat savvy family would be great for me that knows when to not pat me after I get too happy. I will just lay next to you and enjoy your presence without being touched, and will also lay at the door of your room, really protecting you from any mice in the middle of the night. You are safe with me.

I am very food motivated and love my canned food and Cat It nibblers jerky!. Admittedly, those treats are really gross if you are not a fish person. They are little fishies wrapped up in bacon. Delish!

I do like some Temptations treats, also.

I loves my toys, especially the mice ones. How surprising, right? I am also a flopper still, and happy to flop for attention, as well as claw at my cardboard scratchers when you walk in the room... like sharpening my sword so I can go show off and hunt some mice for you.

And... My blankie. I love my blankie. I am like Linus from the Peanuts gang. I love my blankie like a girlfriend. My blankie is coming with me... And... My toys... And my cat bed... And, my scratchers...

So, whatever got my leg last year bit and twisted, and gave me a tear on the knee where I had my wound. I had a flare up a year after the initial injury, but meds fixed my self-inflicted wound because I was knawing at it. I may get future flre-ups that will need an anti-inflammatory and pain med. NBD. I have only had one flare up in 2 years.

I am not a big fan of other kitties. I have learned to coexist, but I am easily intimidated by other kitties, an used to run away, and then swat my foster instead of standing up for myself. Now I stand up for myself, and fur does flair. I pick on the little guy becuase I have a better chance, but some of the cats here just hiss and let me know to stay away, and they are big, so I do. My foster mom keeps the smaller cats away from me, so I don't pick fights with them.

I either need a completely friendly big other cat roommate of be an only kitty.

My ideal home is with a cat savvy person or family that gets up at 6:20 AM. I may be flexible with times. Definitely someone able to pick up on cues, whether that be pain or over-stimulation. It is not hard, you will see me chew when I am uncomfortable with my leg. Or, you will see the scab I made from chewing too much. And, the over-stimulation thing, I do meow a different way, or you just need to time petting me, because after a certain amount of time, I will grab your arm and bite, unfortunately. 10 minutes is plenty of time. Thanks for respecting that.

Fitchburg Friends of Felines facilitates a foster to adopt program that places the intended adoptee with the potential adoptive family.
