He is approximately 5 years old.<br/><br/>This handsome domestic short hair has striking hazel eyes and a classic tabby coat — light brown with dark mackerel stripes and a few spots along his back — finished off with white mittens, socks, and a crisp neck bib. He loves being a lap cat, greeting you at the door when you get home (or complaining about you being gone too long), and following you from room to room once he's decided you're his favorite human. He's also quite the foodie — he's never met a meal he didn't like and may try to negotiate for a bite of yours too.<br/><br/>Hissopotamus got his name for a reason — he hisses when he's startled or unsure, so don't be surprised by a few grumbles when he first comes home. He's shy at first and will likely hide when he arrives in a new space, so he'll need a patient adopter willing to let him come out of his shell on his own timeline. He's also never quite learned how to play, so he'll need some creative enrichment and a few gentle lessons to find his inner kitten.<br/><br/>What Hissopotamus is looking for in a home:<br/><br/> - He can get nervous, so he needs a kind and patient guide to help him feel comfortable with new experiences.He feels at ease in a quiet and calm environment.<br/> - He needs to live indoors only.<br/> - He has a positive history with other cats and may like having a feline friend close to his age.<br/> - He has no known history with dogs.<br/> - He has no known history with children.<br/><br/>All Alley Cat Projects cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption.<br/><br/>Alley Cat Project adoption fees are:<br/><br/> - $200 per cat or kitten<br/> - $350 for pair of cats or kittens<br/> - $50 for senior cat (over 8 years old)<br/> - Flexible reduced fees for a cat with a chronic medical condition that requires ongoing care<br/> - Additional charitable donations are appreciated and support our overall rescue efforts<br/><br/>Thank you for your interest in adopting Hissopotamus!
