Henry's Story

Update May 6th - - Henry is at the Pet Valu, 610 King St W in Hamilton . Go meet his sweetie and prepare to fall in love.
Please read Henry's bio, requirements for adoption and if you think he would be a good fit
then go to avacats.org and fill out an online application form. An adoption co ordinator will be in touch.
Henry was surrendered to us back end of February. A concerned animal lover took him in a year before after he was abandonned by his previous owner. He never got along with her cats and he kept escaping outside and came back with wounds etc. She had him at our vet for treatment then said she was looking for a new home for him as he couldn't stay with them any longer as he was unhappy. We took him on, got his wounds tended to, updated his FVCRP vaccine and rabies, fresh flea treatment and deworming plus microchip. She had him neutered previously and viral tested at the time. He came back as FIV positive which did not deter us at all. FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus - a virus transferable by deep penetrating bite wounds, not casual encounters. It can not be passed to humans or dogs. This means that if he gets a cold it may take him a bit longer than a non FIV cat to recuperate . His quality of life remains the same . He needs to be kept indoors, go to the vet for annual exams fed good quality cat food and he can live a long and healthy life like any other cat you may come across. Don't cross him off your list of adoptable cats, because he will make you just as happy! It is recommended he be the only cat in the house BUT studies show that FIV cats can live among non FIV cats if they are all non aggressive or if you are looking for a companion for another FIV cat. Please read up on FIV a much misunderstood virus. His foster mom says " Henry is a very sweet, smart Tuxedo. He loves to play and have his belly rubbed. I've trained him to roll over when I ask him. He will entertain himself by playing with his toys or trying to catch his tail. He loves sitting on his cat condo looking out the window. He loves being talked to and he loves to tell you when he wants to play or show you something. At night he will first go sit in the window to make sure things are safe and then jumps on the bed to join you. He is a morning cat when you get up and loves running around and be chased. He has a very loud purr., loves to sit next to you and be petted. I call him Humble Henry" . His adoption fee is $250. AVA has an indoor and no declaw policy.
