Hammy's Story
Hi there! My name is Hammy, I'm a 3 year old Male Domestic Shorthair, and I'm at the Santa Barbara Campus, eager for a new home!

Meet Hammy - a sensitive, affectionate little guy looking for a calm home where he can finally settle in for good. Hammy has been through quite a journey in his young life. After being hit by a car as a kitten and recovering from a broken leg, he's had several homes through no fault of his own. Despite all the changes, Hammy remains a sweet cat who truly bonds with his people once he feels safe and comfortable. At first, Hammy can be shy and prefers to take things slow with new people. But give him a little patience and quiet reassurance, and he transforms into a loving companion who enjoys curling up on the couch, lounging in cozy blankets, and even sleeping on your chest at night. Hammy would thrive in a peaceful, low-traffic home where he can be the center of attention. He has shown that he's happiest as the only pet and tends to become stressed around other cats or dogs. He also prefers a calmer environment and will usually hide when visitors come over. This handsome boy has some quirky habits that make him extra unique - he's playful, curious, and especially fond of chewing cardboard and other interesting textures. He may need some continued management and enrichment to help redirect his chewing tendencies, but he's otherwise a well-mannered indoor companion who uses his litterbox reliably.

Hammy is looking for someone patient, understanding, and willing to let him settle in at his own pace. In return, you'll get a loyal, affectionate cat who just wants a soft place to nap and a person to trust. If you've got a quiet home and room in your heart for a gentle soul, Hammy may be your perfect match.

Adoptions are open 12pm-4:30pm every day, except Wednesdays, and no appointment is needed. Like all SBH animals, when I am adopted, I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoptions also include a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic and our partners at Hills Science Diet will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home.

Need some supplies? Both SB Humane Campuses have retail centers stocked with everything you need, at comparable prices, and your purchase helps support our mission. Hope to see you soon!
