Gwen's Story

Meet Gwen! Graceful, gentle and ready for a fresh start, she is a looking for a loving home of her own. Gwen came to us in mid-July after being transferred from an overcrowded shelter that needed to make space for more animals in need. She made the journey alongside her son, Galahad, and has been settling in while waiting for her next chapter. Her name has a legendary connection! Gwen is named after Queen Guinevere, one of the central figures in the legends of King Arthur. Like her namesake, Gwen carries herself with quiet dignity and deserves a kingdom (or at least a cozy home) where she can be cherished. Gwen is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccinations, so she's ready to go home with her new family. You may notice that Gwen has a health waiver noted in her file because she tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Please don't let that discourage you from getting to know this wonderful cat. FIV is not contagious to people or dogs. It is most commonly spread through deep bite wounds, typically between unfixed outdoor cats competing for territory or other limited resources. With routine veterinary care, good nutrition and an indoor lifestyle, FIV-positive cats can live long, happy and healthy lives. Our adoption consultants are happy to answer your questions about FIV and discuss what it means for Gwen's daily life. It is important to us that both Gwen and her adopter are set up for success and we'll help you feel informed and confident every step of the way. If you're looking for a loving companion with a heart as noble as her name, Gwen is ready to write her next chapter with you. The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Adopting an animal is an important decision that will affect you, your household, and the animal for many years to come. Our primary goal is to place animals in a loving and forever home. We strive for the best possible match between you and your new pet. If you do not find the right animal on your first visit to our shelter, please return another day when new animals will be available for adoption. We include as much information as we know about an animal on their information card. We are here to help make a wonderful new addition to your family. Adoption Requirements • Must be 18 years of age or older (seniors 65 and over qualify for the Seniors for Seniors program) • Must have valid ID with current address • Must provide landlord’s name and phone number (or copy of current lease) • All members of the household should be present • You must understand that Berea Animal Rescue must approve your adoption application If this is your first visit, please follow this link, bit.ly/ARFWaiver, to provide us with your household’s information and sign our Animal Contact Waiver. Fees The shelter accepts cash or Mastercard, Visa, or Discover. *If paying in cash, please understand that volunteers are unable to make change.
