Guinness- lovable chunky senior's Story

Where to begin! Guinness was recently dumped by his second owner outside with his house mate after being adopted last spring from the NYC shelter. The neighbor called us to report this as the cats were by the owners door and were caught in a few thunderstorms and were extremely scared. We came with a large carrier ready to take them in. We were having trouble picking Guiness up as he is HUGE and he was soaking wet. I left the carrier with the neighbor who was interacting with them all day in the hopes that she could secure them. Then they shortly disappeared. I often thought of them and what happened to them over the next few weeks. Fast forward almost a month later Guiness shows up a few blocks away and we again get reports of a friendly huge black cat on someone’s property as she’s been feeding him the last few days. I knew it had to be him because of the exact description and close proximity. We took him in immediately and had him shaven as he was extremely matted and dirty. His housemate was reportedly taken in by a neighbor. After scanning his microchip we were able to dig deeper and found out his age was 10 and his first previous owner (he’s had at least 2) gave him up after years. He’s been thriving in his foster home, very chill and relaxed, unphased by the other cats and very happy to be living comfortable. He is working on losing some weight as he is 20lbs of pure love. ADOPTION PROCESS: Once you have found the pet of your dreams you are required to fill out our adoption application (link at bottom of this page) or contact Happy Homes at 732-588-6578. You may text us as well. Following the review of your application you will then receive a call from one of our volunteers to discuss your application further. We will also call your references and the veterinarian you provided us with. If you do not have a current veterinarian we require that you set up an account with one. We require a $225 donation for one kitten and $400 for a pair of kittens. The donation for adult cats is $200 and $350 for a pair. Contact us for the adoption fee for any of our specialty breed cats (Siamese, Bengals, Persians, Scottish Folds, etc.). This donation helps to cover our veterinary costs and care. All cats have been vaccinated, microchipped, tested for FIV/FELV, treated for parasites, and spayed or neutered. YOUR NEW FAMILY MEMBER: We will arrange for you to meet your potential new family member at one of our adoption event locations. If you are pre-approved you will be permitted to bring your family member home that day. If you are still in the application process, we will arrange for you to take your cat home another day. KITTENS: When adopting a kitten, we suggest that kittens be adopted in pairs if there is not a companion cat at home. Cats are social by nature and do much better with the companionship of another cat. Please click on the link on the right to fill out our adoption application and don't forget to follow us on FaceBook. Thank you!
