GORO*'s Story
Meet Goro, the white and black bicolor kitty! Goro came to the Shelter initially as a stray. His handsome looks and charming personality has won the hearts of staff and volunteers. Goro is looking for a cat-savvy adopter who can appropriately read his body language and manage his environment to set him up for success. This may include, after a period of time and acclimation, access indoor-outdoor in his next home. You see, Goro experiences a thing called overstimulation. Overstimulation in cats is normal and easy to manage as well as prevent. To set your cat up for success, you want to be aware of their body language to prevent them from overstimulation. Be mindful of restlessness, tail twitching, ears turning back or flicking, and skin rippling when being pet. If you observe any of these signals, stop petting your cat and allow the cat to relax or move away from you. Cats that overstimulate easily often benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation. Play with a wand toy is a great way to physically stimulate your cat. You want to mimic the cat’s natural hunting behavior and allow them to pounce, catch the toy and bat it around. Clicker training your cat is a great way to mentally stimulate them on a daily basis. Goro is currently housed in our Catio – a room where Goro has safe, enriching indoor-outdoor access. Come on by and meet him! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
