Ginny's Story

***PLEASE READ ENTIRE PROFILE DESCRIPTION BEFORE APPLYING! Thank you! ***

Meet Ginny! This absolutely stunning 5-year-old beauty was saved from being euthanized by her cruel former owners. She had developed some anxiety over being bullied by other cats in the home and being prevented from accessing the litterbox, and as a result had developed inappropriate elimination issues. Instead of getting a veterinary exam/workup, trying ANYTHING at all to help solve it, or rehome her to a better situation, they decided that killing her was a better idea. Luckily the veterinarian they took her to refused to comply, and instead convinced them to sign her over to them. We picked her up from them a few days later.

Since being with us, Ginny has absolutely thrived. No anxiety at all, and uses her litterbox perfectly. Her former home had 6 cats and only 2 litterboxes — both of which were automated ones. So aside from not having anywhere near enough litterboxes for the number of cats they had, they didn’t provide any alternatives for Ginny who clearly either didn’t like sharing or didn’t like the automated type (which some cats are terrified of). All we had to do was give her a normal litterbox with normal fine clumping litter, and she’s a very happy, content girl. Easy peasy!

She did have an undiagnosed severe anal gland abscess that we caught just before it ruptured, and that likely also contributed to her elimination issues. We addressed it and she’s perfect now, you’d never know it happened. Just something to watch for recurrence of in the future.

Now for all the AMAZING things!

Ginny is a beautiful cinnamon and red tabby/torbie coloration with these amazing long-toed paws that have glittery, shimmery sand-colored fur. I absolutely adore her feets!

She is quite honestly the sweetest, funniest, silliest, cuddliest, most loving and devoted cat I could ever dream of. She is just wonderful.

Like most Oriental Shorthairs (OSH), she is VERY needy and clingy, and has to be with her people at all times. Ginny greatly prefers women or more feminine people — cisgender men seem to scare or intimidate her. She is hyper-bonded to her foster mom, and will only come to her, come out when she calls, cuddle with her, lay with her, and generally trust her. She shys away from her foster dad, although she does allow her him to approach and pet her head while she is cuddled up with her foster mom, and she does sit next to him in bed at night. Very occasionally, she will somersault against him at night and ask for gentle belly rubs. But it has taken many weeks for her to allow even this.

She does like to explore, climb on things, sit in sunny windows, play with her favorite toy, but she repeatedly comes back to “check in” with her people every few minutes, just to make sure you’re still here nearby. She adores pipecleaners and feathers, and sunny windows make her entire day better.

Ginny LOVES to play fetch! She has a favorite toy here that she will bring to me repeatedly for me to toss for her, and she will then pounce on it, wrestle and toss it around a bit, then bring it back to me again for me to throw some more. She also likes to bring me the toy in the middle of the night, but if I don’t throw it, she’ll just keep herself busy playing with it. It’s a joy to watch how happy she is with this toy. She also enjoys climbing cat trees and stairs and getting up on furniture, she will needs lots of climbing options. She plays with a few other toys as well, and enjoys cardboard boxes as most cats do.

If she isn’t exploring or playing, she’s laying literally on top of your chest/neck/side, hugged in your arms, or up against you in some way. She is a very typical OSH and very clingy, affectionate, and cuddly. She has to be attached to her person. You are her world, her everything. If you’re doing other things, she’s perfectly content laying in her favorite beds and in sunny windows, but will still check in with you occasionally and boop/pat you with her paws to ask for pets.

She tolerates being picked up and held for a little bit, but will eventually want to be put down. She much prefers being hugged when snuggling in bed or on the couch instead. Thus far she is a little bit head-shy and initially was not really a fan of face/head kisses, but it is improving greatly with trust and she now likes head/face petting and REALLY enjoys body and belly pets.

Ginny does also have the typical loud, grating OSH voice and will talk to you here and there when you talk to her, and will cry if she cannot find her people and is looking for them —- so small, older, thin-walled apartments would not be a good idea, only a large well-constructed concrete apartment/condo or single family home would be best. As a result, she will also need someone who works from home or at least only very short shifts, and doesn’t travel a ton, or a retired person/couple so she has her people with her the vast majority of the time.

Ginny needs to be the ONLY cat in your life, as she is so clingy, needy, and affectionate, and other cats seem to distress her and cause anxiety/defensiveness. I do not feel this will improve, as that was mentioned as being an issue in her former home that had 6 cats, even though she grew up with them, as they bullied her severely. She displays a severe distrust and aversion to all other cats, and will repeatedly hiss and become defensive/distressed. She prefers to be your sole beloved princess!

Older teenage children or one well-behaved, cat-experienced child over 5 would be just fine. Energy level in the home is the most important aspect. She is currently fostered in a quiet, very calm home with a 6-year-old and 17-year-old who have been in cat rescue and veterinary medicine all their lives, so they are respectful and she absolutely adores them, soaking up all the hugs and cuddles. No children under 5 please and no busy, loud, active homes or ones who entertain often or have tons of visitors. Lots of commotion makes her bolt and hide for hours.

Initially I felt that Ginny would not do well with dogs — however, I think an older senior dog that sleeps much of the time and isn’t going to compete for lap/cuddle space may be OK. Her foster home does some dogsitting and boarding, and over the several weeks she has been here, her behavior/comfort around dogs has improved markedly. A busy/active dog, even if it avoids her, would still be too much at this stage. But dogs that sit on the floor and ignore her, never chasing or sniffing her, don’t seem to bother her.

Even with these specific needs and her healing from trauma, Ginny is quite literally a dream cat — if we didn’t have our own kitties, one of whom unfortunately does not like other adult females, we would 100% keep her ourselves as she is just an amazing, wonderful, perfect girl. I look at her and cannot fathom how her previous owners would rather kill such a stunningly beautiful, sweet, loving, cuddly, funny, well behaved girl than just spend $20 to buy her a different litterbox or find her a better-fitting home. It brings me to tears. I am thankful for my veterinary colleagues who saved her, and that she now has a chance at a wonderful life full of love.

As always, all available cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and tested for FIV/FeLV. Cats 7 years and over have had full dentals completed.

Our kitties come with lifetime behavioral support, and a no-questions-asked return policy.

All adoptions require an approved application, and a home visit upon approval when your new family member is delivered. For homes further away who plan to pick up their new baby, a Facetime home visit is required!

If you are interested in adopting Ginny, please download our adoption application from our website: http://www.FreddiesFelines.org and return via e-mail to FreddiesFelines@gmail.com.

I apologize, but due to the overwhelming number of inquiries we get, we cannot answer phone calls about our kitties. Our rescue is small and it’s just me running the show with a few foster homes! Please fill out and e-mail the application if you are interested in any of our furkids!

Special Breed Adoption Fee: $250
